Sheriff Seeks Leader Who Can Halt Illegal Immigration

SPENCER, Iowa -- The tiny jail here has housed many a typical small-town Iowa criminal since its bricks were laid in 1938 -- drunk drivers, drug abusers, the occasional thief. These days, though, Sheriff Randy Krukow walks the cell row and behind the bars sees a new kind of increasingly typical lawbreaker: illegal immigrants. Six of the eight men locked up this month were in the country illegally, accused of identity fraud and drug dealing.

They worry Krukow, as did the 99 illegal immigrants he watched being arrested on television last year when federal agents swarmed a meatpacking plant three hours down the road.

Krukow has never entered the variety store that advertises "envios de dinero" -- money transfers -- to Mexico and Central America that opened two years ago on Grand Avenue in Spencer, where antique lampposts are a reminder of the town's founding more than 100 years ago. And across from Krukow's three-bedroom rancher, on a block filled with flags for the local high school and ribbons for U.S. troops, sits a worn beige rental with a sheet in the front window that is home to a group of Hispanic immigrants.

"When the weather's nice, they're all out there talking on their cellphones. All 10 of them," said Krukow, 57. "Don't speak a lick of English, but they are hardworking."

Krukow understands and even sympathizes with what has brought his new neighbors. The hog and chicken confinement plants that opened a decade ago promise a decent wage and a better life. But he wants illegal immigrants gone before Clay County starts to resemble neighboring Buena Vista County, where half of the workforce at a Tyson meat plant is Hispanic and where one in eight residents is an immigrant.

The PROBLEM is Sheriff's like this who remind me of the story the Prince and the Pauper.

The Sheriff is the Highest elected official in his county!

What bugs me is he is convaluded in his Christian thinking!

The truth of the matter is as Sheriff Beck puts it, YOU Sheriff Krukow are the most powerful elected man in the county. You say on your website that your mission is protection and services to CITIZENS.

Please do not confuse being a Christian to being soft on crime.

If he is seeking a leader who CAN halt illegal immigration then that is easy. They all CAN do it. If he is looking for a leader who WILL halt illegal immigration, he is going to be extremely disappointed. It isn’t going to happen.

I have read that his fellow Iowans are very concerned about illegal immigration and list it among their top issues. I don’t believe that they are all that concerned, and if so, the candidates they are supporting certainly do not reflect those concerns. Not one candidate running has had any concern for border security until they chose to run for president except Duncan Hunter. If he and his fellow Iowans think carefully crafted position papers and a lot of talk will secure the borders, then they are on the right track. If they truly want secure borders they will show up and vote for Duncan Hunter. We will soon see if they really want what they say they do.

I love humanity but, the federal government is deliberately turning a blind eye on the dangers marching across the border. Death and Disease coming over the border and who would know the difference.
I voted for Bush twice and I have never in my life seen such deliberate willful violation of law, it is a miracle someone has not been infected with a deadly disease and spread it all across America. You can not be a Christian and stand by and watch death marching across a border to infect innocent people, you must speak out first to support the poor people in Mexico and you also must speak out to stop the people that have not be checked by doctors from entering and Possibly spreading a plague in America.

This has to be stopped and every politician suppporting such crazy ideals should be removed from the government.

Got the wife home now. As you may have assumed, the situation was a true cluster eff.
Plane full of Liberians, many unaccompanied minors. Basically, they are fleeing their country to get here, sick OR well.
She was sitting about 6 rows in front of the guy, and the smell was quite evident from the sick.
CDC; Customs; they had NO PLAN.
Customs just kept telling everyone that directions were coming directly from the White House (now don't that make you all warm and fuzzy ?)
People had already gotten through customs when the started a panic announcement to all Customs agents NOT to process anyone from this flight.
The patient is still not cleared as free from Ebola.
They took names and numbers, and sent all the other passengers on their way.

There is no way anyone from the infected countries in West Africa should be allowed to travel, period.
