Brendan Byrne promised New Jersey residents that he would “end corruption” when he was elected governor back in the 1970s. We’re still waiting for the till to be closed, and NOT holding our breaths.

New Orleans cracks down on corruption

Well, I suppose for anyone fighting corruption, New Orleans would
be a target-rich environment.

But corruption is something that gave NO/LA some of it's distinctive
flavor...the corrupt there lived large and were amusing to some degree.

I remember seeing a lecture by a historian at LSU.
He said that each year he tells his classes to go to the main building
(the one with the tall tower). He tells them that corruption
was a real Louisiana problem and that the dedication plaque
in the entry way is evidence: just about everybody listed on
the plaque eventually went to jail.

New Orleans without corruption wouldn’t be New Orleans.

The Big Easy won’t go down without a fight.

There is plenty of corruption in NO. What is it, about one-third of its size before Katrina?

Isn’t this a little bit like Bill Clinton offering marriage counseling?

For example, several close associates of former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial have been convicted in connection with skimming money from an energy-management contract signed by City Hall. Morial has not been accused of wrongdoing.

While I applaud the efforts of the MCC and others, until they can nail some of the big fish like Morial, they're not going to make much of a dent in N.O. corruption.

Be careful who you convict. Don Seigelman was convicted in Alabama on multiple counts and nearly every Democrat in Congress want to investigate the conviction.

When I lived in New Orleans I had a friend who had lived in New Orleans all of his life.

He told me that it wasn't until he was 25 that he found out that it was the city that was supposed to pay the cops.
