Press Release:

Election Study Finds Media Hit Hillary Hardest Obama, Huckabee Fare Best; FOX Is Most Balanced (not a typo) TV election news has been hardest on Hillary Clinton this fall, while Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee have been the biggest media favorites, according to a new study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) at George Mason University. The study also found that Fox NewsChannel's evening news show provided more balanced coverage than its counterparts on the broadcast networks.

They’ll do what they always do when they can’t win a debate because the facts aren’t on their side (which is ironically, all the time.) The Kos folks will attack the messenger...

I believe GMU’s economics department tends to be conservative, even compared to the other econ departments (which in general is more conservative compared to, say, English or History department).

They probably have among the most conservative law school and economic departments in the country, employing Walter Williams, among others, there. A truly fine school.

It is interesting that this study concludes that Huckabee is getting the most favorable coverage. Part of the mantra of his followers whenever his record is questioned is “you are just repeating the lies and half-truths of the Main Street Media.” It turns out the MSM is promoting him big time.

George Mason U. just doesn't get it. By being fair and balanced, Fox exposes the bias of the liberal media and thus is a conservative fascist network.

If there was ever a conservative network that was as obviously and outrageously biased as CNN NBC ABC CBS, etc., they would go absolutely ape. For example, if good people here chose the focus of the news presented to the people (the good iraq news, the good economic news, for example), showed the President respectfully, made fun of liberals, restricted liberals on any panel to 1/5th of the analysts, and all the other propaganda techniques that the networks use, it would be wonderful to me and an eye-opener to the nation what real, pro-USA news looks like.

Can't we get a billonaire to do this?

Always remember that Rupert Murdoch held fundraisers for Hillary Clinton and Al Gore, is a big proponent of global warming, and makes more money from pornography than Larry Flynt. Pathetic, but I guess that makes him fair and balanced.

Well, I watch Fox a lot.

But I’ve never seen a study yet, let alone one on media fairness and balance, that wasn’t somehow biased.

I am a former member of the electronic media in Washington, DC, and, based on my experience, I think everyone is biased. Period. Including me. :)

You need to read the report more closely. As George Mason defines it, 'balanced' means an equal number of positive and negative stories on candidates. It does not mean balanced politically with equally positive or negative stories on both political parties.

In fact, Fox has more positive stories on Democrats than on Republicans . . in fact, more positive stories on Democrats than do the broadcast news organizations.

However, they had fewer negative stories on either party than the broadcast news organizations, making them 'balanced' in positive versus negative.

So Kos will probably ignore the results altogether, but if they have any comments (beyond knee-jerk "I hate Fox" blather) they will say that it proves how bad the Republicans are when even Fox attacks them more than it attacks the Dims.

To me, the issue is not "objectivity," the issue is fairness in debate. Everyone has their own POV, so they are not properly called "objective. The actual problem is that some of us believe that we are entitled to our own facts. Those people call themselves objective but, in thus arguing from the assumption of their own superior virtue, mark themselves as sophists.

The only reason they get away with it is their advantage in power, in that they are the ones controlling the microphones and the printing presses.
