NBC says some find bookcase and Christmas lights offensive

Candidate wishing voters Merry Christmas upsets some folks

The latest effort to spread the idea that religion has no place in the public square comes as a response to a TV spot produced by presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

I urge you to watch the two video clips I have placed in this e-mail. First, is the ad by former Governor Huckabee wishing people a Merry Christmas. Click here to watch the 30-second ad.

Next, is a clip from the Today Show (Dec. 18), hosted by Meredith Vieira, on which Governor Huckabee was a guest. Vieira opens the interview talking about how some say the ad is sending an overt religious appeal to voters.

Some have become so openly hostile to the Christian faith that they are upset when a candidate simply wishes viewers Merry Christmas and mentions that --after all-- Christmas is the day Christians celebrate the birth of Christ.

The governor is accused of putting a cross in the background of his ad. The 'cross' they find offensive is nothing more than a bookcase. The critics say also that three lights stand for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! What is disappointing is that the media grabs such a concoction and makes big news out of this ad.

To me, these accusations are utterly silly, and biased. Watch the clip from the Today Show. There are those who feel that nothing religious, especially wishing people Merry Christmas, should be made by anyone seeking public office. That is the attitude of those who want to drive religion from the public square.

The 'cross' they find offensive is nothing more than a bookcase.

Goes along with Barbara Walters on “The View” and her indignation that the WH Christmas card referenced religion.

I carry a copy of the Constitution in my smartphone. I am also (late in life) studying to become a paralegal. Try as I might, I can find no right not to be offended in the Constitution. Though you’d never know it based on the comments from the ‘yutes’ in my classes.

He’s wrong. Most do not object to the name of Jesus, but to the name of Jesus being used for political purposes.

Coleus, I disagree with the article. The ad would have been fine, even great, if not for the fact that it was run by a candidate for President using religion as a political tool.

Meredith Vieira can kiss my ass provided she’s had her shots and takes a bath first.

Well if 80% in this country celebrate Xmas and if a politician makes an ad to say merry christams, then why shouldnt there be a cross and a tree and whatever else?

The nice thing about democracy is that if a candidate offends you, you don’t have to vote for him.

I doubt anybody here is offended by any cross. But this sneaking in a cross and then being cute about it isn’t Presidential.

Should a candidate for office risk offending the majority of voters (Christians) by pointedly ignoring the birth of Jesus Christ just because some POS is arrogant enough to think that he/she should do so? If thwe candidate does that, you can bet you bippy that here is one Christian who WILL NOT vote for him for tht very reason -- I don't like cowards.
