I dont know if things could break Thompsons way. I have been a DH supporter but finally have had to admit things are less than a wildfire in his camp here in Iowa.

So what do I do? Was leaning toward the pol Romney, even with his plastic sterotypical smooth talkin sugardaddy Im the tv persona President. Yeah he looks the part, but he is just too slippery for me. His recent comment about limiting some assault rifles or some such caused me to toss him over the transom. Mclame is out==just way to lefty as is his buddy Rooty. Im flumoxed—Thompson makes me gag on my first amend words. He does not like them. Face it—none of these guys are the complete package—I will mull it until Jan 3 and then finally make some sort of w a g for one of these less than optimum ego filled darlings.

Since you are in Iowa, what is your gut feeling about how the candidates are doing, how do you think the other voters are seeing them?

I have to ask you because I am living down here in Duncan Hunters district, a long way away.

“Thompson makes me gag on my first amend words” I think McCainFeingold is an outrage. OTOH, Fred has conceded it was probably a mistake. (To behonest—I think everyone including the President, assumed the Supreme Court would rule it unconstitutional and last term the Court certainly did back off one part of it.)

YOU'RE flummoxed! What about ME? I can't figure out what you are getting at with this.

Really - I don't get it. Are these the "first amend words" you are referring to:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

If so, what part of these do you think "he does not like"?

And why would you think such a thing? Surely you aren't referring to CFR? Thompson has already and long since said his support of that legislation was a mistake. And besides, it wasn't just Thompson, all on his lonesome, that got that piece of crap enacted into law. A majority of Senators and Representatives voted for it in a Republican controlled Congress, if memory serves. And never forget that George W. Bush signed it. Laying this at the feet of Fred Thompson involves a bit of bad history.

It's taken months but it is now clear that Republicans only have two conservatives running for president. They are Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter. Hunter has zero chance but if we all get together, maybe Fred has a chance.

Did you see what Ann Coulter said about Steve King's endorsement of Fred? She said Steve King is the best man in DC and his endorsement of Fred is huge.

Also, if Steve is the best man in DC, Bill Salier is one of the best men not in DC and his endorsement is important. Those who knew Bill from his senate run against Ganske do not forget him. He is incredible. Go, Fred.

You're wrong there. What Fred didn't like, and the main reason he supported CFR, was the anonymous big donors giving money to push their candidate and bash the opposition, with NO accountability. He would love to have individuals figure prominently in the fundraising, and feel 'ownership' of their government again.
