The author of this piece doesn’t believe ancients connected a comet with the birth of a king.
As a matter of fact, Halley’s comet made an appearance in 1066 and it was viewed, correctly it would appear, as a sign of something threatening and ominous, not positive.
Halley’s comet was distinguishable as a comet by the naked eye. Most comets aren’t — they require a telescope for that determination, and telescopes weren’t invented until 15 centuries after Christ.
