William Jefferson (D-La.), who is under federal criminal indictment for racketeering, money laundering and solicitation of bribes. Jefferson got a $500,000 earmark to finance bus facilities for the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority and another $500,000 earmark for speed-rail corridors crossings in Louisiana and Mississippi.

They’ll reelect him, even if he’s serving federal time in Sandstone, MN.

I read in the Thursday Wall Street Journal that President Bush has gotten a legal opinion that there is nothing requiring him to spend “earmark” money for its designated purpose. If it was for roads, for example, it could simply be used on roads someplace else.
Texas, say.

Wouldn’t THAT frost ol’ Billie Jefferson?

That’s true, and not to give him what should be a strong talking point, Barak Obama was a cosponsor of a transparency bill for earmarks. I believe a public database was supposed to allow people to search for earmarks to see where pork was going. Anyone know, the status of this?

Look, if the Democrats statrted cleaning their own house, where would it end? And who’d be left? With the solid support of the MSM, they are practically immune and they know it.

If the earmarks designate the contractor or supplier..they should be a search warrant and send in the FBI.
When there is a designated benifactor..other than the public..it is outright curruption.

It’s the only way that the Dems can get him re-elected.

If the Republicans can’t win in this environment, with thousands more earmakrs than years past, an obviously guilty POS collecting $$$, the Surge proving the Dems wrong on Iraq, the repubs are done.

How much more proof do we need that washington needs to be nuked from orbit, just to be sure that every last one of them is no longer a threat to our lives, liberty, or property?
