Romney's honesty problem (Mitt lied about his own mother's position on abortion?! 8/07)
Boston Globe ^ | August 9, 2007 | Joan Vennochi

MITT ROMNEY is determined to prove he's pro-life. How about proving he's pro-truth?

Every time Romney tries to explain his evolution from supporter to opponent of abortion rights, his honesty comes into question. That's because his explanations over the years don't add up.

In June 2005, former Globe columnist Eileen McNamara challenged Romney's assertion of his mother's pro-choice position. Two longtime Romney family friends and political supporters -- former governor William Milliken and former Republican National Committee co-chairwoman Elly Peterson -- told McNamara they could not recall Lenore Romney speaking out publicly for abortion. If she had, it would have represented a dramatic change of heart and break with the Mormon Church. Peterson, who worked on Lenore Romney's campaign, said, "If it happened, I'd remember it. It didn't and I don't." Milliken, who served as George Romney's lieutenant governor, also expressed skepticism.

What kind of man lies about his own mother?

Willard is such dishonest fraud, he will taint the credibility of the Republican party and any conservative that backs him.

The slickness of Slick Willard is a story that’s finally getting legs. Finally.

Why would the GOP, ostensibly the right-ward party in the USA, nominate a lying liberal? That’s kooky-talk.

I don't know. Sadly, he's not the only liar running for the most powerful position in the nation.

I believe Mitt Romney over the BOSTON GLOBE or any other MSM outlet any day of the week.

The MSM is going after Romney because he the only GOP candidate that scares them.

In response to the column, Romney produced a statement of his mother’s position at the time: “I support and recognize the need for more liberal abortion rights while affirming the legal and medical measures need to protect the unborn and pregnant woman.”

This sounds just like Mitt’s stance when he was running for Senate in 1994, and the Governorship in 2002. Since then, Mitt has become firmly pro-life.

I don’t see what the problem is, other than a few ninnies at the Globe (and on FR) looking to smear Romney because their own candidates are too weak to run on their own strengths (or lack thereof).

Don’t forget Hillary’s old wife’s tales.....of being named after Sir Hillary Edmund or being denied to NASA to be an astronaut as a little girl.

" He engaged in a full-body tango with Massachusetts voters, doing everything he could to convince them he was pro-choice. He used his mother and another dead relative as props in a cold political calculation. He's been a pro-life Mormon faking it as a pro-choice friendly," Romney adviser Mike Murphy told the National Review in 2006.

That's more than a mistake. That's dishonest.

But..but...he's changed. He's 60. He's a conservative. Honest. Really.

crickets.

Bingo. The Globe is the most liberal piece of trash in the MSM. They’ve been firmly anti-Romney since Romney won the Governor’s mansion in MA.

It’s like quoting al Jazeera when talking about the War on Terror.

JRochelle, Petronski, and Ol’ Sparky (and a few others) can’t see the forest for the trees. And not a single one of them seems capable of posting a positive article about whichever candidate they support. All they’ve posted are smear articles against Romney.

So unless you’re a pro-choice friendly, why would you care? The people closest to Mitt say that he’s been on the pro-life side all along.

No, if that were the case, they would have gone after him long ago. I think they have been brought kicking and screaming.

What does that mean? So he said things to get elected? Or was he pro-choice when running and since he saw the light (or maybe a sonogram)?

I don't really care what his mother said or didn't say but she sounds like a twit. More liberal abortion? What like partial birth? and yet let's affirm medical measures to protect the unborn? Why? If abortion needs to be more liberal then the unborn is nothing so why protect it? She's seriously two-faced.

Mitt's stance has changed on many other issues as well in 2002 through 2004 and later. This is called his conversion from Liberal to RINO.

Money question (that we should pay attention to) --> Why did the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe endorse someone other than Mitt.

Boston Globe is a liberal rag. They want the beatable candidate to win.

Boston Herald is a paper that is mostly objective ... slightly conservative. They simply don't like Mitt... for good reason.

Mitt was ineffective in his job as governor here in MA. In addition to that, Mitt worked ONLY 100 days during his last year as governor. Then, he proceeded to kick the conservative candidate, Kerry Healy, to the curb when she ran against Deval Patrick in 2006. Kerry was by far the most qualified candidate. In fact, Deval Patrick, governor, after his win, adopted much of Kerry's platform.
