Nathan Bedford Forrest was essentially cleared of any war crimes in the Fort Pillow engagement by a war tribunal, primarily composed of northern Republicans. Casualties were very high at Fort Pillow, but it was not a massacre. approximately 65% of the black solders were casualties and 35% of the white solders were casualties, leaving approximately half remaining. Also noteworthy is the fact that the commander of the black troops died early in the engagement, leaving those troops without proper leadership and contributing to the large number of casualties.

I believe the Yiddish word for this person is “meshugenah” (sp?) and he can “gen drecht” for all I care.

Muslims believe in the existence of Christ and include references to Him in their religious text, therefore they are Christians. This is why muslims love torture. < /sarc >

Wow, that is ugly. It almost rises to the level of Freeper attacks on Huckabee and Mormons.

Interesting too that he glosses over the FACTS that when the KKK was founded, it specifically included Republicans alongside Catholics and black people as the groups to target because the KKK was founded by Democrats. Now whadja go and say that for? He also left out the fact taht it was those nasty Republicans hypocrites who passed the Civil Rights Act back in the late '60s -- over the vehement objections of his darling democrats.

Truly a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury... can't imagine why the Post would pay for such inanity. Because it's the Washington Post, that's why.

And that they lynched Leo Frank? Wrong oone. But, tht's another discussion.
These cranky liberals dont know the countrys history. If they did, theyd know that Christians were the leading abolitionists.
CORRECTION: REPUBLICAN Christians.

Rather, it's the gap between the teachings of the Gospels and the preachings of the Gospel's Own Party that has widened past the point of absurdity, even as the ostensible Christianization of the party proceeds apace.I don't get his point; shouldn't he be happy with this apparent separation of church/theology and state?
To: kittymyrib
If Christians were really so intolerant, they would have gotten rid of liberal Jews long ago, instead of putting up with their ankle-biting sniping at something they dont understand and have no part in.
At recess in Catholic school we used to water board instead of skate board. I kinda liked it - but that was back in the 50’s when Christians were REALLY cruel we’re more “enlightened” mpw. I don’t know what this creep is talking about intolerant, cruel Christians. :)

Nathan Beford Forrest did start the KKK; however it was a secret society solely for the purpose of fighting the Carpetbaggers. They had to. I bet none of you know at that time it was illegal for a white confederate man to vote; however blacks could vote. This was not about black against white or white against black. It was about the new reconstruction. And as usual blacks and whites were pit against each other when the real reason was tyranny; economics; etc. Sound familiar? What they are doing today. The bad things the KKK were doing wasn’t until later and Forrest got out.

True, due to their disenfranchisement, such action was understandable. Also, once disenfranchisement was ended, Forrest ordered the KKK to disband.

You are so right. The comments left on his column at the Washington Post are so vile against Christianity, and so uninformed, it’s scary. It also amazes me how people how hate Christianity, and probably think that Job is in the New Testament (like Howard Dean), think that they are biblical scholars in terms of what Christianity supposedly teaches on social policy matters. Their ignorance and hatred portends bad times for our country’s future.
