WaPo Columnist Compares Christians to KKK, Says They Love 'Torture'
Newsbusters.org ^ | 12/19/07 | Warner Todd Huston

Posted on 12/19/2007 6:15:05 AM PST by Mobile Vulgus

After catching Harold Meyerson's latest Washington Post hatemongering against religion in general, Christians in particular, and Republicans especially, all I could say was just WOW! This thing is nearly unhinged and if you took the word Christian out and replaced it with any of the favored, protected minorities that the MSM guards like mother hens, it would be indistinguishable from the kind of pure bigotry that would result in Meyerson's utter ostracizing should it have been written about those protected classes. Calling Republicans/Christians torturers, abusers of immigrants, members of the KKK, bigots and even mean, Meyerson skipped only the Nazi and Hitler references making one wonder if his hatred for Christians isn't fully sated after all in this piece and if there is more seething bile that he decided it was better not to air?

There is absolutely no substance to Meyerson's piece at all. It is filled with lies, mischaracterizations, blatant spin and name-calling. In fact, it is nothing but a 12 paragraph excuse to call Christians names, so I won't waste time trying to refute his garbage as it is so bigoted and full of lies that it defies reply -- that and it would take far more time than I'm willing to give it. But, here is a list of all the names he calls Christians and Republicans and just some of his outrageously off-base "analysis" in this piece of trash.

See what I mean? There is no "debate" here, nothing to say in reply to this hater because there isn't a single sentient point made by Meyerson. His just let lose a stream of hate that is as baseless and lacking of real proof as any a bigot ever devised against his most hated segment of humanity.

In the final analysis, Meyerson complains about the right's "hypocrisy" yet so revels in his own that it makes your head spin. After all, as he complains that the right is so overly concerned about religion in politics, he wants it utterly eliminated from the public sphere, then he complains that the right isn't "tolerant" enough. Yet, he so pummels Christians and religion showing he is just as intolerant in the opposite direction as those he claims to hate so much.

Like I said, reading Meyerson's piece boggles the mind. It really has to be read in its entirety to be believed. This kind of hatred would never be allowed by a newspaper should it have been leveled against Jews, blacks or gays, et al. This is the kind of stuff you'd see from the presses of dictators and tyrants' in their efforts to discredit their enemies. This is a China's or a Chavez' style, not that of a level headed democrat.

All you can say is just WOW!

If Christians were really so intolerant, they would have gotten rid of liberal Jews long ago, instead of putting up with their ankle-biting sniping at something they don’t understand and have no part in.

Democrats can stump speech in black churches from the pulpit on Sundays before election day and there is no outcry from the antiChristian Left.

REVEREND Al Sharpton can run for President and there is no one on the Left asking from where comes his title of “Reverend”.

Bill Clinton can carry a show Bible that is bigger than the NYC phonebook to Church during his impeachment hearings over perjury during a sexual harassment trial and there is no outcry from the Left.

They know that this “ol’ time religion” “superstitious bunk” is something they have to put up with and shuck and jive the rubes over. So the Republicans get debate questions over Evolution but no Democrats are asked questions of matters of faith. Belief in God does not prohibit support for the theory of Evolution, but to say that God did not CREATE anything is to say that God evolved like everything else (leaving the possibility for multiple) OR the God does not exist. So why not ask the Democrats at the next debate, “Did God create this world or not?”.

The Stalinist Left is getting their talking points out early this scampaign because they know that they continue to lose elections over “religious bigotry” over things like homosexuality.

The Black Community doesn’t buy the agenda they are selling and have to be made to lose their religion to adopt the liberal position on every issue.

So bring up the KKK and tell them they are being “Oreo cookies”, black on the outside but white on the inside. The Democrats want everyone’s vote even if they radically disagree with those voters.

Interesting too that he glosses over the FACTS that when the KKK was founded, it specifically included Republicans alongside Catholics and black people as the groups to target because the KKK was founded by Democrats.

He discusses the KKK of the 1920s but again neglects to mention that there were Democrat Klansmen.

And of course he omits the detail that there was a Klansman RECRUITER who still sits in the Senate and is a Democrat - Senator Robert Byrd. AND Mr. Byrd still uses the N-word PROUDLY declaring that there are black N*****S and white N******S.

Racism is an ugly thing. So is discrimination against Christians.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say he's a wild-eyed bigot, but he's definitely a confused liberal.

Meyerson makes an idiotic attempt to use Christianity criticize Republicans, particularly on illegal immigration. He seems to say that, because Bush, Huckster, and others in the GOP profess to be Christians, then their christianity should govern all their decisions, exactly what those who scream the separation of Church and State are most afraid of. Yet, when their policies go against Meyerson's interpretation of Scripture, what could be considered "separation of Church and State", then that's a horrible thing. I'm sorry I wasted my time reading the column.

Hillary doesn’t have to worry about her face. She has to worry about her mask. Back in the ’92 race, Clinton pollsters devised strategies to humanize her and make her seem more warm and maternal. Fifteen years later, her campaign is devising strategies to humanize her and make her seem more warm and maternal.

..........................................................

Maureen Dowd from the New York Slime .....

One of my male colleagues was explaining why men age better than women.
“It’s evolutionary,” he said. “As we wear out our wives, who are running around taking care of the kids, we know we’re going to have to get another younger wife, so we stay good-looking.”

He was kidding. (I think.) We were discussing Hillary’s latest hurdle: the Old Hag routine.
.....................................................

Paul Costello, who was an aide to Rosalynn Carter and Kitty Dukakis, calls this “the snake belly of the campaign,” and notes drily: “We’ve been staring at aging white men from the beginning of the democracy.”

.......................................................

Mitt Romney, Barack Obama and John Edwards almost always look good, and pretty much the same, in dark suits or casual wear. Fred Thompson always looks crepuscular and droopy. Often Hillary looks great, and sometimes she looks tired, heavier or puffier. Jim Cole, The Associated Press photographer who took the offending shot, said that there were several other pictures that day where she looked “radiant.”

...................................................

It is criminal to burn a cross even on your own land but burning an American flag on public or private property is protected free speech even in incidents where it is a stolen flag (the theft of the flag is criminal but there is no hate crime charge for doing this to someone else’s flag).

The DNC Brownshirts were out in full force in 2004 slashing tires of GOP campaign vehicles, throwing bricks through campaign office windows, writing pieces on the GOP campaign “through the eyes of a staffer” (for Rolling Stone and other periodicals acknowledging they volunteered for the article, not any belief in the party), painting swastikas on the homes, cars, and campaign signs of Bush supporters, and even assault.

Expect them to be even uglier thugs this time around because the 2004 incidents were treated as isolated events, not a national trend.

The Battle of Fort Pillow
(April 12, 1864)

In April 1864, the Union garrison at Fort Pillow, a Confederate-built earthen fortification and a Union-built inner redoubt, overlooking the Mississippi River about forty river miles above Memphis, comprised 295 white Tennessee troops and 262 U.S. Colored Troops, all under the command of Maj. Lionel F. Booth. Confederate Maj. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked the fort on April 12 with a cavalry division of approximately 2,500 men. Forrest seized the older outworks, with high knolls commanding the Union position, to surround Booth’s force. Rugged terrain prevented the gunboat New Era from providing effective fire support for the Federals. The garrison was unable to depress its artillery enough to cover the approaches to the fort. To make matters worse, Rebel sharpshooters, on the surrounding knolls, began wounding and killing the Federals, including Booth, who was killed. Maj. William F. Bradford then took over command of the garrison. The Confederates launched a determined attack at 11:00 am, occupying more strategic locations around the fort, and Forrest demanded unconditional surrender. Bradford asked for an hour for consultation and Forrest granted twenty minutes. Bradford refused surrender and the Confederates renewed the attack, soon overran the fort, and drove the Federals down the river’s bluff into a deadly crossfire. Casualties were high and only sixty-two of the U.S. Colored Troops survived the fight. Many accused the Confederates of perpetrating a massacre of the black troops, and that controversy continues today. The Confederates evacuated Fort Pillow that evening so they gained little from the attack except to temporarily disrupt Union operations. The Fort Pillow Massacre became a Union rallying cry and cemented resolve to see the war through to its conclusion.

Nathan Bedford Forrest was essentially cleared of any war crimes in the Fort Pillow engagement by a war tribunal, primarily composed of northern Republicans. Casualties were very high at Fort Pillow, but it was not a massacre. approximately 65% of the black solders were casualties and 35% of the white solders were casualties, leaving approximately half remaining. Also noteworthy is the fact that the commander of the black troops died early in the engagement, leaving those troops without proper leadership and contributing to the large number of casualties.
