Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Niece Will Headline West Coast Pro-Life Walk

San Francisco, CA
(LifeNews.com) -- The niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will lead an estimated 20,000 people along San Francisco’s waterfront in the fourth annual West Coast Walk for Life. The event is a western equivalent to the national March for Life in Washington and it gives participants a chance to show how abortion hurts women.

King's father was slain civil rights activist A.D. King, and their home in Birmingham, Alabama, was bombed during the civil rights struggles.

This year's event takes place on Saturday, January 19 and Clenard Childress, another African-American pro-life leader and Gianna Jessen, who survived a failed saline solution abortion, will speak as well.

“If the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is to live, our babies must live. Our mothers must choose life,” Alveda King said in a statement provided to LifeNews.com. “The greatest injustice we face is the denial of the right to life. Without life, no other rights exist.”

King, a mother of six who works with Priests for Life, knows the pain and heartache women who have abortions fell because she has had two herself.

Childress has spoken at each Walk for Life since 2005 and he said the event "continues to be a galvanizing event for people of conscience who seek social justice for all of our citizens, born and unborn."

Jessen plans to share how her mother put her up for an abortion only to survive the procedure. She wants to encourage other women to not think that abortion is the only solution to an unplanned pregnancy.

“I was aborted and I didn’t die,” she said. “We need to get back to valuing human beings based on their intrinsic value rather than on whether or not they fit into our plans or whether or not they serve our purpose.”

Walk organizer Dolores Meehan says an informational fair will kick off the walk and feature tables and booths sponsored by pregnancy centers and groups that help women heal from the medical and mental health problems abortion causes.

Last year the Walk drew more than 20,000 participants, predominantly from the Bay Area, but with substantial groups from throughout California and the western states.

And they will vote for a Democrat of their choice? Spock to Kirk, "This is not logical".

Sounds great! The West Coast Walk for Life always brings out some real freaks in counter-protest. The true face of the pro-abortion movement crawls out of the woodwork in a place like San Francisco, and it isn’t pretty. They say that when the priests in the march pass by the pro-abort counter-protestors, it’s like a scene from a demonic horror film, with the pro-aborts recoiling and screaming vulgarities like the girl in the Exorcist.

I wish the biased news media would show that on TV.

Dr. Alveda King is a Republican and endorsed Sam Brownback for president.

Interesting info on this sad episode in our Republic.

Who are the true revolutionaries in this debate? Those who hark back to the “me” decade, or those who think beyond “self”?

When will we “overcome”? When will we shout these life-losers down? When will we have the courage to stand up to them, and shame them back into the dark alleys where they belong, scurrying like the rats they are.

Please know, friends, I believe they deserve “freedom of choice”. But, they do not deserve support from the public purse.

They can do what they want, but we can also call them on it, and say that our Republic does not have any obligation to support their deviant choices and the unfortunate consequences of the same.

Local charities can take up voluntary dollars to help them fend off those consequences. Where on earth did they get the idea that us taxpayers should pay for their stupid “life-style” choices?

Wow !! That time again. I marched in this the past two years, and our Priest is already talking about getting ready for the 2008 event.

The poster above is correct, the march can be a bit scary at times. Participating in a Pro-Life March in SF is like walking straight through the belly of the beast. However, there are a LOT of SF Police along the route, and I figure that with 20,000 of us marching, there is safety in numbers.

There were not as many counter-protesters at the January 2007 march as there were at the January 2006 march. Hopefully this is a downward trend which will continue!!

Bravo! When will the black community understand that they are *targets* of the eugenics movement?

Glad to see we still have some great black leaders. Too bad they won’t get a moment’s notice in the MSM, even if they are related to Dr. King!
