He wrote some good stuff, but he was a major factor in the pussification of American males.

P.C.’s a ‘Goldilocks’ disease. Overtreatment is as big a problem as undertreatment. “Just Right” is the name of the game.

What has taken the place of “group” recording
sessions are live concerts that produce GREAT
recordings. Symphonic instrumentation is popular
(real musicians - real music) and so the band has
become an orchestra.

I found it difficult to get musicians together
because everyone has a day job. That forced me
to learn to write and record ALL the instruments,
bass, drums, strings... I learned to be the entire
orchestra. Not what I planned, but I don’t have
to depend on anyone but myself. A good thing and
an unfortunate thing, because I LIKE the energy of
a group. I miss it. Everything is so detached now
days.

I use Sonar 2.2 with Windows XP. Started with
Cakewalk 4.0 years ago. I was one of the PC Studio
pioneers when my choice was QBase and Cakewalk.
People were calling me from Cakewalk to help them
understand wave data.

You are half correct. The story about the song is true (the store he references is the Kroger on Wisconsin in Peoria) but the tune is to 1812 Overture. He was messing around on the piano playing 1812 and penned the lyrics to it.
At least that is the story he told at his last concert here in Peoria in 2002.

Either way, we will truly miss him. Hometown boy makes good!

You are right. It’s late.

It is the 1812 Overture NOT William Tell
Overture. Thank you for the correction.

That’s what I posted on the other Fogelberg thread.

Had thought of him more the past year than in many before that, because of “Run for the Roses” and our dear Barbaro. Also, hearing “Another Auld Lang Syne” a lot these past few weeks. This is so sad.

You are absolutely right. Much of his best work was on the albums you mentioned, “Netherlands”, “Souvenirs”, “Captured Angel”, and “The Innocent Age”. Fogelberg was a great writer of both melodies and lyrics. My own personal favorite was a very dark, haunting song called “Wysteria.”

I don't know if any of you ever heard this song by Josh Groban, but, it makes me grab for kleenex every time I hear it.

Today, I lost a special little friend after a long battle with cancer. She was 17. I dedicate this song to Catie............(I'm sniffin' and blowin' here)......

....and to Dan Fogelberg:

Josh Groban - To Where You Are

(I wouldn't have posted this if you hadn't posted a Josh Groban link. Thank you.)

Thank you - I was sitting here running through “Hi Ho Silver Awaaaayyy!” and thinking, “nope.”

Now I’m humming “Puffs is the cereal that’s shot from guns” in my mind and trying to make it fit “Same Old Lang Syne.”

Would’ve driven me nuts if you hadn’t said it was 1812, lol - but now it’s just driving me nuts, period, as my puter is without sound!

Lol! I have to admit, I was never really a fan of Fogelberg's music due to the maudlin nature of many of his hits. But he did have one uptempo tune, Love Gone By, that was a great tune. You probably wouldn't know it was him if you heard it. But a talented guy, to be sure, may he RIP.
