An elementary student in Marion County was arrested Thursday after school officials found her cutting food during lunch with a knife that she brought from home, police said.
The 10-year-old girl, a student at Sunrise Elementary School in Ocala, was charged possession of a weapon on school property, which is a felony.
According to authorities, school employees spotted the girl cutting her food while she was eating lunch and took the steak knife from her.
The girl told sheriff's deputies that she had brought the knife to school on more than one occasion in the past.
Students told officials that the girl did not threaten anyone with the knife.
The girl was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

I agree. A stern talking to and a warning w/be sufficient. The situation does beg the question as to why a 10-yr old w/be bringing a steak knife for those lunches that schools provide. I believe there was cause for the school to make an issue, but not a felony charge.
ARRGGHHH! Schools have become so frickin’ stupid! She wasn’t killing the food was she? She wasn’t hurting a fellow student was she? Doubt it the thought crossed her mind.
What can people do about the craziness?
These officials are insane. They need to be given frontal lobotomies and made into gardeners.
Begging vs. raising questions aside, the article doesn’t say she was eating a school lunch. Does the TV report add that fact?

Back in the day it was common for several of the neighborhood boys to take our BB guns and pellet guns over to the abandoned gravel plant and shoot up whatever we could. We’d walk through the neighborhood, there and back, with our “deadly weapons.”
Can you imagine what would happen to us today? SWAT team, detention, waiver to adult court, and branded as “terrorists,” I’m sure.
There is trans fat in her steak. Honest.
Gardeners often wield sharp tools. These folks would not be safe with same.

shaking my head at what much of this country has become and tolerates in many instances,, nuts, just plain nuts.
This is what happens when “zero tolerance” is implemented at schools. There is no ability to have any kind of common sense or individual assessment of the circumstances involved.....not that common sense would have been applied, anyways...
I submit that schools are getting way too much funding if they can afford to feed steak to thousands of kids.
A man pulled out a knife in my presence today.
