[Kansas Attorney General Paul] Morrison steps down amid scandal
Topeka Capital Journal ^ | 12/14/07 | Unattributed

Posted on 12/14/2007 2:13:33 PM PST by Huntress

Attorney General Paul Morrison today resigned from office in wake of a sex scandal.

During a news conference in the Topeka office of the attorney general, Morrison said he would step down Jan. 31.

His announcement came on the heels of a story published in Sunday’s edition of The Topeka Capital-Journal that detailed an extramarital affair Morrison had with Linda Carter, who had been director of administration in the Johnson County District Attorney’s office.

Before resigning from the D.A.’s office in November, Carter filed a federal sex harassment complaint against Morrison with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Carter also said Morrison had attempted to use their relationship to influence federal and state court cases involving Johnson County D.A. Phill Kline. Morrison, however, said he did nothing illegal.

On Thursday, the Johnson County Commission agreed to hire a special prosecutor to investigate blackmail, telephone harassment and other alleged criminal activity related to the sex scandal. Kline had requested funding for the special prosecutor from the commission.

Kline has yet to appoint the person who will serve as independent counsel.

I figured this would happen eventually, but not so soon after the scandal broke.

Haha, this is rather funny. Morrison and Kline have this vendetta against each other. Just throw them in the ring and let them go at it.

I didn’t expect it to end this soon as well. Obviously things were as bad as reported, if not worse. Definitly going to be a strained Christmas holiday in the Morrison household.

Actually the actress Linda Carter was with Robert Altman who was convicted a banking scandal.

I heard about Paul Bartel (actor/director) flinging a barb at Linda one night at a film fest when he knowingly asked how her husband’s “new film” was going (knowing that her Robert Altmas was not the director and was then under investigation).

He used to be Republican, I think. At least he changed his registration to Democrat in order to run for Attorney General. But his logic on that was fair - says justice should not have a party affiliation, so better to be from both. Regardless of party, it is always a dissappointment when things like this happen - it is a drag on the whole system.

Robert Altman who was convicted a banking scandal.

Correction - Robert Altman was not convicted, he was found not guilty in the trial. Around the time of Robert Altman's trial Roger Altman, who was the under-secretary of Treasury Department and has been a part of cover-up of one of early Clinton's White House scandals, and later resigned from that post because of it, was questioned by Congressional committee and several times was called "Robert Altman" by Congress-critters, which invariably caused laughter during proceedings.

Both Linda Carter and Robert Altman during the long trial were the pictures of dignity and class despite the circus atmosphere by hostile media.

Bear in mind, Kansas has a democRAT Governor who will appoint another like minded RAT to replace Morrison. Kansas has not elected a RAT Senator since the early 1930’s, but has been split on governships and state wide offices. This is a good day for the GOP in the 3rd Congressional District where Morrison served. Yo!

He is going to jail for trying to influence cases in the office of the man he beat Johnson County DA Phil Kline. Kline announced he is going to ask for a special prosecutor. The spy was the chick Morrison was “doing the business with” if you know what I mean.

I thought he had been put into office by the Wichita abortionist Tiller to shut down Kline’s inquiries and it should be a comeuppance to the Kansas electorate that let the integrity of the office be fouled by kissing up to the mores of the east coast elites. And don’t tell me “integrity” is a relative term, when was it ever not?

The guy he ran against was prosecuting the baby killer from Topeka. Morrison took campaign donation from the “doctor” and dropped the charges once he took office.

The really hillarious thing is that Morrison USED TO BE A REPUBLICAN!!! But he knew that he couldn't get the AG as a republican (the republicans would never run Morrison over Klein), so he "converted" to a democrat!

Interestingly enough, Morrison wound up running against Klein for AG, while he was Johnson County DA, and after Morrison was the AG post, Klein was appointed Johnson County DA (Morrison's old job!). It's a real weird situation here... And the MSM really has it out for Klein. There's even been some speculation that the whole thing was a setup by Klein from the start! Paranoid!

What’s even more weird is that there is a good chance that
Sebelius will appoint Chris Biggs (whom Kline beat for AG in 2002) to replace Morrison.

It may not be "easy" for Morrison. The hatred towards Kline by the leftists and the media rivals BDS! I'm fairly certain that if Klein were to be found murdered, the KC Red Star and other media outlets would lead the story with "It was Kline's fault" and "he deserved it." If Morrison used this woman (who was working in Kline's office) to keep track of Kline's investigation into Tiller, and using that information, Morrison derailed the investigation and prosecution, then in addition to the EEOC complaint, my guess is Morrison could wind up in state prison.

He resigned in an attempt to short circuit the real investigations into his criminal behavior, which are a lot more serious than another sex harassment case, which he’s had before.
I wonder if Tiller the Killer will get his bribes, I mean “contributions” to Morrison back? This is a huge embarrassment to the leftie newspaper editors in this state, as they have been doing the lewinsky on Morrison ever since he switched parties and started attacking Kline and carrying water for Tiller. They loved him so much there were little hearts on their editorials.

It’s also another embarrassment for our carpetbagging governor, who was so proud to welcome this crook into the RAT ranks.

snip “my guess is Morrison could wind up in state prison.”

I doubt he will go to prison regardless of what the evidence shows. The Dem governor wants this to go away. Kline is the political winner right now but knows that if he persues Morrison, he will once again be made the monster by the media.

His quick resignation was probably a “plea bargain.” He leaves quietly and the Dems and Rinos will make sure there is no criminal conviction.

I figured this would happen eventually, but not so soon after the scandal broke.

Same here. Sebellius probably pressured him to step down hoping that the scandal would fade from the press if he did. That way, she can get someone in there and have them build a reputation before the 2010 election. (Of course, Morrison had a 'reputation' too, and look what that got us.)
