*Illegals Foes Reject Nod to Huckabee* (Sorry, Huck-ites, Not So Fast!)
Washington Times ^ | 14 December 2007 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 12/13/2007 5:18:54 PM PST by AmericanInTokyo

Minuteman co-founder James Gilchrist's endorsement of presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has spurred a backlash among illegal-immigration opponents who say the former Arkansas governor is soft on immigration enforcement. "Mike Huckabee is pro-amnesty and favors a path to citizenship for illegal aliens currently in the U.S. that would require a lifting of current penalties," said William Gheen, whose 25,000-member Americans for Legal Immigration sent mass mailings yesterday to more than 300 pro-enforcement groups.

Both Michael and James are the BIG losers in this thing.

It is going to blow up in their faces. They do not realize how much they mobilized a potent anti-illegal alien movement in the last three weeks on the ground in the battle states, on this issue, and against Huckabee. Stupid move, because it has opened the whole deal to great scrutiny. Huckabee has only succeeded in sticking a BB gun into a hornets nest and pulling a trigger. Even naive Arkansas farm boys know not to pull that kind of stunt.

I think Hunter and Thompson will gain ground...since everyone else knows the score on Rudy McRomney as well on this issue of United States Sovereignty and national survival.

Ping thy lists.

I will do what I can, too.

Maybe they will get a Huckabee Spokesbot to sign up ASAP on FR in a panic, to start "allaying our concerns" and "explaining further", like the White House tried to do with that guy a few months ago when they were poised to lose the Amnesty Vote, and he shows up on this Forum.

When they show up on FR in an official capacity, you know a) they are worried, and b) we have influence. I welcome them. Bring it on.

Actually, I like that word "Huckafeller". I might start doing it.

You know, HUCK does indeed represent the Ripon Republican, Nelson Rockefeller wing of the GOP. Great play on words.

Hillary and the Democrats are laughing. Their opponents the Republicans will nominate either Huckabee a pro amnesty and big government guy or they will nominate Rudy a pro-choice and pro amnesty guy.

Either if nominated will split the Republican vote in the general election handing the election to the Democrats

No conservatives should support these two DBM put-ups.

Part of Huckabee's illegal immigrant plan:

Propose to provide all illegal immigrants a 120-day window to register with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and leave the country. Those who register and return to their home country will face no penalty if they later apply to immigrate or visit; those who do not return home will be, when caught, barred from future reentry for a period of 10 years.

Why would an illegal alien register and then leave the country? Wouldn't they just leave? Why did Huckabee pad the plan with this nonsense? Is there a trick I can't see?

Please find below a special message from MinutemanHQ.com. They have some important information to share with you.

No National Minuteman Group has endorsed Mike Huckabee.

One individual Minuteman has personally endorsed him.

For the sake of clarity, it is important to note that the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC), the nation’s largest Minuteman organization, is a 501(C)4 non-profit organization and cannot and does not endorse any candidate for public office. MCDC is not associated with Mr. Jim Gilchrist, who today endorsed Mike Huckabee for president.

Jim Gilchrist’s erstwhile Minuteman Project is itself an organization which by its own representations as a non-profit civic group cannot legally endorse candidates. It does not have any volunteers who observe illegal border activity. It has no border fence building projects. Jim Gilchrist here speaks only for Jim Gilchrist, he does not speak for the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, nor is he nationally representative of most patriots in the “Minuteman movement” – who under no circumstances could ignore the failed record nor endorse the duplicitous “plan” recently rolled out by candidate Mike Huckabee. The national media needs to recognize that Jim Gilchrist’s endorsement is his own personal statement, nothing more.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps emphasizes policy dealing with national border security. The only “plan” to ensure border security that is acceptable to our constituency would be a candidate policy statement declaring that his first act as President will be to hold a press conference and announce to the American people an executive order to immediately deploy and fund 30,000 National Guard personnel to the U.S. Borders (25,000 to the southern border and 5,000 to the northern border) to complement a massive increase in U.S. Border Patrol Agent field personnel, and a bilateral effort to secure our frontiers, smash the drug cartels, shut down the human smugglers and protect the public safety of the citizens who reside along the borders on both sides of our national boundaries.

Unlike this last-minute opportunism attempted by Huckabee, many of the other GOP presidential candidates have actually helped push the issue of national border security forward for some time. ...

Sincerely for these United States,

Chris Simcox, President
Minuteman Civil Defense Corps

You are entitled to your opinion. Mine is that either is way better than any of the dimocRAT alternatives. I will vote for the Republican nominee. Pure disaster otherwise.

"Mr. Huckabee, who apologized to Mr. Gilchrist for not supporting the Minuteman project when it was first formed, said this week that he was honored to receive the endorsement."

There is something very strange, imo, about this endorsement. I hope the truth comes out!

Since we don’t enforce our immigration laws now, why would an illegal even bother to go through these hoops.
