Let me be the first to call BS on that one.
The way I see it, Allegra - incorporating your comments along with those of a military family member serving over there, parts of her account are quite plausible, some are clearly being spun and others are harder to credit.
(1) It is entirely plausible that unruly male contractors (many of whom themselves are in their late teens to early twenties) would take advantage of an intoxicated woman and rape her. Even drug her.
I have witnessed drunks in that age group do pretty sickening things before and have had to intervene.
Contracting in Iraq probably attracts many of the same personality types as the American Frontier did - some people hoping to accomplish great things, some people looking for exciting adventures, and some people looking to escape the boundaries of normal civilized behavior.
(2) What seems spun to me is the container thing: first because the average person would assume that being in a container would be like locking a person in the back of a truck in the desert - not that it was a common form of housing unit in Iraq that generally contained basic amenities like AC. Moreover, if you had a woman in distress who was sexually assaulted by a group not all of whom she could identify, you would not want her out and about among the wolves in her state.
The incommunicado part is much more troublesome.
What also is spun is Rep. Poe's position in all this. He is a pretty outspoken guy, and I would imagine he would be banging the drum in the press about this. He has not been particularly vocal.
(3) What is not plausible is Army medical personnel - presumably women - giving custody of evidence to the employer of the accused.
That just seems like a complete violation of procedure and a complete violation of common sense, and Army medics as a group have a pretty outstanding reputation for professionalism.
I find it a little odd as well. The company is supporting our efforts in Iraq and they catch a lot of flak from leftists, so I think that explains some of the support. I guess that makes a reflexive defensiveness understandable, but certainly not wise.
Just to add my 2 cents: I was in Iraq in 2005, and had a good deal of interaction with KBR personnel, both on missions and during down time. I found that most were fairly decent people, but there were a substantial minority that seemed pretty shady.
I talked to one KBR guy who seemed pretty decent and couldn't wait to get home ASAP. He said there was a LOT of drug use, prostitution, and criminal behavior going on amongst his civilian coworkers, and the extra money just wasn't enough to put up with it all. I ran across that same sentiment from a couple of other employees and from some of the military liaisons as well.
I don't say this to imply that KBR is automatically guilty or a bad organization. Admittedly, my experiences are not as extensive as some of the Freeper contractors who've been over there for several years. I just think it might be healthy to maintain a little skepticism and not to assume that the company is snow-white just because they are hated by the Democrats.
You know from some of the posts on this thread you would think we have some mozzies here. Lets put'em in berka's that way no one would be tempted, and keep home locked up in the basement, less the neighbor should see them. Some of you people need a good brain wash!

I never denied their humanity nor wish them to be harmed, nor said anything of the sort. I do want them to be subject to some type of law so that the handful of bad ones can’t go around raping people without consequences, which is the current situation.

I went and read about the information posted by Jersey Highlander at more length on other sites and they confirmed the basic information. The only additional information that I learned was the the problem was more endemic to the entire UN peacekeeping force - with which the company was very tightly integrated - than just the one american company.
Have you checked out the information he was posting because it appears to be based on a civil case in England which was one by the plaintiff where she successfully argued that she was re-assigned for writing an honest report which revealed that many of her co-workers and other UN peacekeeping staff in bosnia were visiting brothels and strip clubs and participating in the sex trade that they were supposed to be stamping out.

But, I think you got to the point, which is that it could have happened and therefore using the “b—— had it coming” excuse/defense isn’t really appropriate, for the reasons you noted. Attractive, young, dangerous area, or not, the girl doesn’t deserve to be gang raped and sodomized. Imagine if it were your mother, wife, sister, cousin, friends wife, daughter, etc. Maybe she wasn’t wise, but damn.

Basically what you're saying is: "Yeah, the Soros site is like, totally right, because like some other people - I won't say who - told me, like, the exact same stuff."
