At the Annapolis peace talks last month, the Israeli team — Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak — didn't have high expectations for making headway on the Palestinian issue, but they were confident of pressing their case on Iran to a receptive White House. Instead, Barak was taken aside by U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and told that new intelligence persuaded the Americans that Iran wasn't such a big threat after all.

Shortly after Pakistan goes unstable we announce that Iran isn’t a threat. My tinfoil hat says there is a connection.
The only 'connection' I see is the fact that we have rogue elements within the highest segments of our Intelligence agencies.
The type of rogue-ness (Clintonista types) which comes from years of unbridled power, unbridled funding, incestuous connections with Democratic Senate Committees.
These 'lifer' bureaucrats at the NIE, the NSA, the State Dept., see themselves as the ultimate barometer and implementer of US policy -- regardless of Bush Administration directions ... regardless of US strategic interests and regardless of what is right and wrong.

British analysts also believe that Iranian nuclear staff, knowing their phones were tapped, deliberately gave US agents misinformation from 2003 on.
“We are sceptical. We want to know what the basis of it is, where did it come from?” a British source was quoted as saying.
“Was it on the basis of the defector? Was it on the basis of the intercept material?”
THIS NIE “leaked report” is politics at its worst at the highest levels of the Intelligence community in Wash. DC.
Is there a coordinated effort by our intelligence and factions within Iraq, Pakistan, Syria etc?
