when a black bear clawed through a tent in a primitive camping area in the Timpooneke trail area of American Fork Canyon and killed 11-year-old Samuel Ives of Utah County.

When are they ever? Ban all bear hunting and they'll just move on to the next aggrieved class of plant, animal, offended human, or those that should be offended but are just too stupid to know it, i.e. you and I.

Correct. The PETAphile mantra that “A rat is a dog is a pig is a boy” means all are fair food for predators like bears. /heavy sarc

Liberals will not be happy, but Steven Colbert will be. He always list as his number 1 threat to America: BEARS!!!

But, of course, Steven Colbert is closer to being America’s bigger threat than are BEARS!!!!

How ‘bout stay out of Bear country?

Like people who swim in waters patroled by sharks then whine when they get bit.

I never understood camping and hiking deep in the woods.

Let’s see Las Vegas or a forest , hmmmm.....

Let’s see, beautiful beaches of barbados or a forest, hmm...

We have a growing bear problem in our neck of the woods, too. To compound it, the bleeding hearts will set food out for them.

‘Liberals will not be happy. ‘

Indeed, for no other reason than ‘the children are for the bears!’ doesn’t quite sing as well.

Liberals are never happy. “Miserable” is their defining trait.

But everyone knows black bears are harmless and that Disney movies are nature documentaries not fantasy.

Remember the rural myth or fact about the Eskimos putting their elderly on ice floes for the polar bears to eat? Maybe we can put Jimmy Carter, Billy Bob Clinton, Mad Albright and some others out to sea. Would make the polar bears sick, but at least they’d do a quick job of it.

From the article: “But this year, the proposal is getting extra scrutiny from wildlife defenders . . .”

“But wildlife advocates . . .”

I love the way an AR sympathetic reporter uses these key words . . . wildlife defenders, wildlife advocates.

Wouldn’t want to refer to their real agenda, animal rights above human interests.

Bears are not warm fuzzy gentle creatures. They have only one thing on their pinhead minds: eat. You can not trust them. It would be real good if they were thinned out...

A good friend of mine had to kill one 3 years ago in self defense. The sow charged him 3 times. He made noise, raised his arms, etc. to try and convince her he wasn’t worth the trouble. On the 3rd charge he could tell she wasn’t bluffing.

He contacted the state wildlife division and reported the incident. They met him at the location and investigated it as a crime. Once they determined he was, indeed protecting himself he was free to go.

Tennessee and KY have a “bear relocation” program fro problem bears in the Smokey Mt. campgrounds. They are tagged and relocated to another area. If they are caught again, they are on double secret probation and marked for extermination.
One of the areas they happen to relocate problem bears that have lost their fear of humans in also a popular hiking, horseback riding and deer hunting area in East TN.

Kind of keeps you on your toes when you are hiking or hunting out that way

Bears that barge in on people in the forest have become enough of a nuisance that more of them should be hunted, state wildlife managers have decided.

I hate to nitpick, but isn't it the people barging in on the bears?

There was a reason why people once knew it was a good idea to kill bears. At the best they consider us competition. At the worst they consider us food.

If you venture somewhere you may not be at the top of the food chain, you and everyone with you needs to carry an equalizer.

I recommend something in .45-70.

Please note carefully that when predators were shot by Americans exercising their Unalienable Rights (see Jefferson, Washington, et al), predators stayed away from people, as they knew Man was the top predator.

When America began to accept the collectivist principles of the socialism impaired, then predators lost their fear of gunpowder.

Why shouldn’t they - Americans had been stripped of their most basic right, the right to be armed to protect their lives, and the lives of their children.

Suggestion:

Remember Jacobson’s Law of Predator management - “When gunpowder speaks, beasts listen.”
