The problem is, the Catholic League will give this movie more publicity than it deserves.

I’m gonna disagree with you on this one. This is a major studio’s major release for the holidays. The Catholic League comments and discussion thereof will be swamped by the movie’s advertising. The basic word of the author’s intent will get through to balance the studio’s subterfuge.

Were it a smaller offering I’d agree, but in this case, no.

I don’t think so. The Catholic League is only one of may organizations getting the word out. Otherwise, people would have assumed that this was another Narnia story, especially since it’s sponsored by the producers of the Lord of the Rings.

The result of the campaign will not only to hurt movie sales, but to seriously damage the reputation of New Line Cinema among parents concerned for their families. It will be the same as what happened to Walt Disney Studios, who tossed away their reputation as a trusted family oriented company, and will never get it back again.

Newline also was responsible for the Austin Power movies, as well as The Lord of the Rings. That’s OK, because those movies weren’t marketed for little kids, and people who saw them knew what they were getting. But this time they’ve gone over the line.

The very concept of trying to kill God is ludicrous in the first place. But for someone to spend their life and money to fight against someone they don’t even believe in that goes beyond madness. I don’t believe in ______(fill in the blank), but if you want to believe...go ahead and have fun, who should care? Truth is, down in their hearts, they know God is real and they must spend their lives convincing themselves that He’s not, at all costs.

In some cases I would agree with you, but in this case, I appreciated the Catholic League’s notice. I wouldn’t have known to avoid the pic with my two small kids otherwise. We may well have gone to see it. No chance of it now. “Enchanted” looks good for a holiday movie treat.

Perhaps, but at least they aren't plucking it out of obscurity (it has a decent ad budget) nor hammering it so hard that they are "forcing" people to see it to make up their own minds.

Uh, do you have any idea how much they're spending to market this movie? The idea that it's better to be silent than to risk helping to promote an evil film by denouncing it is a non-starter for me when you're dealing with one that's already got a multi-million dollar ad campaign behind it.

No, dogg, it was a calculated risk, to keep the rest of the trilogy from being made -- and in all likelihood, that will be the ultimate outcome.
