Yes, it is.
I don’t read Sci Fi, but I do fantasy... but I am very picky about what I read... like all popular genre’s there is a ton of crap out there... so usually I wind up sticking with authors I already know and enjoy. But even a known author won’t get me to pick up a book or series where I find the underlying premise uninteresting.
Same is true of all genre’s I’d bet.
I don't have time to read bad books. And lord knows there are plenty of them out there, in every genre.
I don’t know how you can even carry that broad brush....
What if the dragons come from Mars on a spaceship? :p
It’s at 42% on Rotten, 20% with the cream of the crop reviewers. Kidman is having a really hard time putting out movies anybody likes since Moulin Rouge, and really 90% of what anybody liked about that movie was what her costume didn’t hide. She needs to take the hint.
Aaaaah, sorta ...
I saw “Moulin Rouge” on a transatlantic flight - dubbed into French, with Dutch subtitles. Didn’t miss much not understanding a word :-).
The sets, costumes, and theatrical production numbers were really cool.
My kids will never see the movie or read the books. I have a rule they have to read the book first, then see the movie. We went through Harry Potter, I read them first to see if they were really “bad”, and I found nothing wrong. Same with Lemoney Snickett...both great and entertaining..
This guy wants to kill god in the minds of children... give this a man a basket for christmas, it will come in handy on his journey to hell! LOL
Those polar bears look like the same ones who pulled the wicked witch’s chariot in “Narnia.”
That’s pretty much the universal review of Rouge, everybody likes how the movie looks, everybody likes the pace, everybody really loves the production numbers, nobody bothers to pay any attention to the plot, not even enough to see if it has one. And there’s nothing wrong with that, movies are supposed to be entertaining and Rouge is definitely entertaining.
Too funny, I remember when Lynch's version of Dune came out and it had all these toys like sand crawlers and the like. I bet they're worth money now since I seriously doubt they sold too many. I just don't see a kid asking for a Carryall instead of a Millennium Falcon (sp?).
I've read all the Dragonriders books, including the Dragonsinger/Dragonsong/Dragondrums books for the younger set.
Parts of them are really good, but parts are truly awful.
And I don't agree with her musical taste or ideas at all ("Killishandra Ree" is even worse.) The idea that everybody's gotten all worked up about this wonderful computer that is going to reveal all the lost musical secrets of the people's remote Earthly ancestors . . . and they ask the computer to play a 'song of the people' . . . and it plays "Home on the Range"!?!?!?!?!?
SWEET HOLY JESUS ON A BICYCLE, what was she thinking?
Hark! Vinatieri kicketh a winning review!
That the people have no taste? Can't use me to disprove the premise ... I like "On Eagle's Wings"!
It's been too long since my Heinlen phase to recall the titles but Lazurus made appearances in several of his novels. However, Time Enough for Love was the quintessential Lazurus Long book and my favorite Heinlen novel.
My only problem with Narnia was the witch. Maybe I’m just thinking like a guy, but I thought they should of had someone more pleasing to the eye - to make it more believable she could make this boy betray his own brother and sister.
Actually, the author calls them "daemons," fooling no one except himself.
The enemy is "The Magisterium." Gee, this guy is clever.
