Video of Huckabee Calling for Scholarships and In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens (2005)
Arkansas Journal ^ | November 25, 2007 | Henry Rearden

Posted on 11/25/2007 9:12:50 PM PST by RebekahT

Huckabee announces his desire to give scholarships to illegal aliens in his January 11, 2005 State of the State address. Huckabee doesn't say "illegal aliens". He uses the word "status". But a newspaper account makes clear his intentions, "Illegal aliens would be eligible for state taxpayer-funded college scholarships and in-state college tuition rates under a bill that was endorsed by a committee of the Arkansas House of Representatives on Tuesday. House Bill 1525 by Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, is part of Gov. Mike Huckabee’s legislative package. It easily won favor in the House Education Committee, of which Elliott is chairman." (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 2/23/2005)

Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, said she had already planned to file a bill granting instate status to the children of immigrants who live in Arkansas and have applied to state universities. "It’s nice to know we will have an ally in the governor’s office." (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 1/12/05)

Here's another newspaper account, "Gov. Mike Huckabee, who included the bill in his legislative package, drew a contrast between Wednesday's vote in support of illegal immigrants and the state's handling of the 1957 desegregation of Little Rock's Central High School. "They took a stand that Arkansas can be proud of,"Huckabee said in describing the House. "I think if we had taken a similar one in 1957, it would have made us proud for a long, long time."" (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 2/24/2005)

Yet another one of Huckabee's flip-flops... Clink on the link to check out a video of Huckabee, on the floor of the Arkansas legislature back in 2005 insisting that children of illegals should get scholarships and in-state tuition.

This is the Mike Huckabee that Arkansans know - which is probably one of the greatest reasons he's polling at 8% in his home state.

Sorry - Huckabee is trying to do the “Christian” thing and right America’s wrongs to African slaves by giving handouts to illegals. He isn’t too concerned about your kids’ college tuition.

Huckabee is a pro-life, Southern Baptist socialist. On most issues, he’s more in line with Hillary than any conservative in America.

I’m just hoping that actual proof - like this video - will expose his record to any conservative who has been swayed by his smooth demeanor and touching speeches.

I would say this pretty much nails the coffin closed on any hope Huck has for getting ANTI ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION votes in Iowa and elsewhere, which may be a potent vote bank.

I missed that part in Sunday school I guess...

You know, the part where you steal from someone to “give” to someone else less fortunate...

Huckabee pushed a bill that was a state version of the DREAM ACT called HB1525 in 2005. Here's the bill. Thanks to the efforts of AR citizens, the bill failed to pass. :

Has he really flip-flopped on this issue? I thought he was still in favor of states being allowed to offer illegal immigrant children who were applying for citizenship to get in-state tuition. Maybe not though if you have to open it up to everybody.

Bob Barker for the illegals. "Come on down."

He's a disaster waiting to happen because he still won't back down on the illegal giveaway.

I meant that Huckabee is trying to come across as strong on the illegal immigration issue now that he’s realized that he needs the conservative base’s support in order to win the nomination. He’s running from his record while governor of Arkansas for 10 years because his record was everything but conservative on most issues, including illegal aliens.
