26 years. Time for a new bird. Maybe one that performs as the shuttle was originally intended to. Flyback booster or Single Stage to Orbit. Maybe not so much heavy lift capability, use non-man rated solid boosters for that.

That looks like it was taken from well over 40,000ft. The color looks a bit off, so I'd say it's from an old photo not stored very well.
NASA is now using specially modified weather research aircraft to film shuttle launches. I think they can go to 60,000ft.

If you mean the “roll to heads up”, no. That came around 2000 to 2002 when that was first done. That’s done for better TDRS reception. In 1981, there were NO TDRS sattelites in orbit.
