Pressure mounts to pardon Border agents

Top conservatives have joined ranking House leaders in their bid to pressure the president to pardon two jailed El Paso Border Patrol agents for the nonfatal shooting of a Mexican drug smuggler in 2005.

In a letter to be delivered tomorrow to the White House, 31 major conservative petitioners joined a campaign being led by Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican and presidential candidate, to ask President Bush to pardon Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean before Thanksgiving.

The letter comes on the heels of the arrest of admitted drug smuggler Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila on charges of trafficking marijuana while he was profiting from the federal-immunity deal as the star witness in the shooting case against the agents.

"History has proven that the mere words and deeds of a president can change the course of history and profoundly affect both the tone and direction of the nation"s moral character for generations to come," said the letter signed by 31 petitioners, mostly from Christian conservative groups and national security organizations.

"The impact of a president"s silence can have the same dramatic and devastating results. That is why we find your continued silence on the issue of a presidential pardon for Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean of great concern," it said.

...Aldrete-Davila has entered hospitals in El Paso under federal escort since the October 2006 sentencing of the former agents, eyewitnesses close to the case told The Washington Times.

On Nov. 8, Mr. Aldrete-Davila was at a hospital in El Paso for a pre-operative appointment for surgery, the eyewitness source said. That source and other El Paso sources have told The Times that the U.S. government has been paying for his medical bills.

Federal authorities, however, denied that Mr. Aldrete-Davila had entered the U.S. under federal escort several times for medical treatment.

Duncan Hunter, the only presidential candidate that backs up his words with actions. I haven't heard a peep out of Roody, Slick Myth, McCain, nor Thompson for that matter, speaking out for release of Compean and Ramos.

Duncan Hunter, his principles are uncompromising. Every thing he does, every position he holds, Duncan Hunter puts America first!

Duncan Hunter gets it! He really gets it! His convervative principles are rock solid and unwaivering. Duncan Hunter is a true patriot and hero. Duncan Hunter is a beacon of conservatism in a torrent sea of phoney flip-flopping RINO's and leftist socialist. Duncan Hunter, no nose holding necessary come election day.

Duncan Hunter, 173rd Airborne, 75th Army Rangers

Duncan Hunter, no nose holding necessary come election day.

ask President Bush to pardon Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean before Thanksgiving,

Doing so would require bush to side with America on the ILLEGAL alien issue, not against her. And, unfortunately, that's not about to happen.

I think you're repeating yourself. I used to work for a quy who was an Airborne Ranger. He served in Vietnam too, about the same time I was there. His name is Wes Clark. You want him for your President, 'cause I don't.

You obviously don’t know the difference from someone who went only to Ranger School or someone who actually served in a Ranger company.

You should know the difference. RLTW

When I wear my tin-foil hat, I understand perfectly what is taking place in our Nation. Trouble is....I am not allowed to wear my tin-foil hat, all the time. Someone is always forcing me to come back to the confusion and believe the lies.

No doubt, this Man (Mr. Hunter) is America's best hope for the future of America and the American People. To say anymore would mean I would have to put on my tin-foil hat again....and then someone would be forcing me to come back to the confusion and believe the lies, again.

These stories of personal persecution by the state used to shock American citizens because they came from the Soviet Union!

Hunter is obviously the best hope for the future of America despite the fact that he lacks a Hollywood television show and has 27 years in congress, not a mere 8.

Pardon Ramos and Compean. Reinstate them with back pay. Provide them with some reasonable compensation for the pain and suffering that they and their families have been forced to endure because of this miscarriage of justice.

The Bush administration should fire one more US Attorney.

Anyone allowing Hollywood to tell them how to vote is probably a liberal......mho

Former President Ronald Reagan was despised by Hollywood.

Why so many people are afraid of Mr. Duncan Hunter falls into the same fears, people had of Former President Ronald Reagan. Although Former President Ronald Reagan was an actor, he gave up the trade, and became one of the Greatest Leaders our Nation ever witnessed.

I guess there are those who would prefer Mr. Duncan Hunter go to Hollywood and then become a Presidential Candidate.

Just a reminder that Ramos and Compean aren’t his only victims.

I'd be happy to have a real conservative president for a change. There is no one on the ballot that fits that description more than Hunter.

Yeah, I did repeat myself. But it's worth repeating.

You're comparing Wesley Clark to Duncan Hunter? With all due respect to Clark's military service, Wesley Clark is no Duncan Hunter! Unlike Clark, Duncan Hunter is rock solid and never compromises on his conservative principles.

Without a True Leader at the helm of the Presidency of the United States, these types of acts will only become more prevalent in our Nation. Of this I have no doubt.

Oh, I think that I understand the difference pretty well, GI buddy. It's the guy's like "dit xi" who think that the words "airborne" and "Ranger" automatically makes your breath smell better, raises your I.Q. by twenty points, and makes you devastatingly attractive to women and "real conservative" primary voters, who don't understand. BTW, Wes Clark is a weasel through and through, but on his worst day he's more publicly personable, more intelligent (in terms of raw intelligence, not common sense) and has a better speaking voice than the Duck Hunter. Sad, but true. One thing you should know is that military leaders are appointed, not elected. And that's a "good thing", 'cause if it were otherwise guys like George Patton and U.S. Grant would never have come to the fore.
