Teacher charged with sex offences against student

Mississauga high school teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting one of her students.

Peel Regional Police wouldn't reveal what school the woman works at. However, well-placed sources say she teaches special education at Notre Dame Secondary School in Brampton.

The charges relate to a 16-year-old male student at the school. Police allege the victim and teacher engaged in sexually "explicit" conversations over the internet over the past few months, which led to a face-to-face meeting where the boy was sexually assaulted.

Det. Sgt. Greg Knapton, officer-in-charge of the force's Special Victims Unit, said the internet communication allegedly occurred between the boy's home and the woman's home.

Police have seized the teacher's computer for further investigating, Knapton said.

Dina Calautti, 35, of Mississauga, has been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation and one count each of sexual assault and internet luring of a child. She will be appearing before a Brampton court on Dec 17.

Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board spokesperson Bruce Campbell said she has been suspended with pay, as per Board policy. She has been with the Board for 10 years and at Notre Dame since 2000, Campbell added.

"Obviously we are disturbed by the allegations but we are cooperating fully with the police investigation," he said.

A letter will be going home today with Notre Dame students.

Several students speak highly of Calautti on www.ratemyteachers.ca, a website where students can rate and comment about their teachers and schools. Many students refer to Calautti as "the best teacher at Notre Dame."

"Awesome english teacher," one student said. "She is so smart, nice and kind. She makes everything interesting to learn about."

Anyone with further information is asked to contact 905-453-2121 ext. 3460 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS/8477.

Gentlemen of the jury, have you reached a verdict?

Not the best picture. Perhaps if the content of the sexually “explicit” conversations were made available , a decision could be reached. /s

Well on RatemyTeachers.ca she only got a 3.8 out of 5 for “Average Easiness”. (Many did describe her as “beautiful” though.)

There really is an epidemic of women teachers abusing teens and subteens for their(the teacher’s) sexual gratification. A teacher is an authority figure. When is the NEA going to come out with some kind of statement or program against this kind of activity?

Women’s libbers railed against the abuse of power by men over women, and now women are showing they can abuse their power as well. Where is the outrage by the feminists?

And lastly, any comments on why this is a current epidemic?
Why are these women doing this to their students? Is it a power thing? Is this more common now, than before? Or perhaps, more known now because people are revealing these activities and prosecuting?

Although there have always been these kinds of liasions, it is amazing to me the high number of teacher student liasions, where the situation is fraught with the possibility of a leak of confidentiality and the loss to the teacher of their professional accreditation that they worked for. This is very dangerous behavior just on the professional level, let alone the moral and ethical ;evels for a teacher.

Why take the chance? I don’t understand this kind of behavior, outside of base human desires. I wonder if there is another dimension to this.

Has anyone else noticed something here...

People scream bloody murder over the religious leader sexual abuse of young boys (i.e. homosexual, though that word is NEVER used in the media), primarily in the Catholic Church (though it’s happened in other religions as well). Now don’t get me wrong. This sort of thing is evil, and the harm it causes the child is devastating.

However...

Does anyone else notice that for the most part, the media is silent on the sexual abuse of children by public school teachers?

It seems to me that this sort of thing is far more prevalent than what we hear about with the Church.

Could it simply be that the media is more protective towards public school teachers, who tend to be union members, and be liberal, usually with the same political agenda as the media?

Mark

BS a 16 year old male cannot be assaulted by a female. At 16 he is looking for as many and as much as he can find.

A Brampton high school student is outraged with Peel police for charging his teacher with allegedly committing sex-related offences against him, insisting all she did was help him get over an emotional breakup with his girlfriend.

The 16-year-old teen yesterday denied having any sexual or romantic relationship with his 35-year-old teacher but admitted he sought advice from her during online MSN Internet chats after his girlfriend dumped him.

"She did nothing wrong. She helped me get over my ex-girlfriend," said the Grade 11 student, who can't be named. "She did nothing to me. All we did was talk. Our conversations weren't sexually explicit.

"She never touched me. Police have taken this way, way too far. When they told me she was going to be charged, I was speechless."

From here.

Overreaction??????

Looks like an over-reaction and abuse of prosecutorial authority to me, based on the ‘victim’s’ own statement.

In cases like this a gun collection or nice bass boat can make the difference.

16 is the “age of consent” in many states, and in FL only if the other person is not more than 5(?) years older, IIRC.......

Teachers, and by inference, Teacher’s Unions, are a “protected” class of individual. The MSM considers these stories “local” and unworthy of national exposure, unless there are circumstances that they cannot quash themselves, like the teacher got pregnant or something like fleeing to Mexico.........
