Why Hillary should not be Trusted

Don't make too much of Sen. Hillary Clinton's flip-flopping and inability to decide whether she's for or against issuing illegal aliens driver's licenses. That's the least of her problems. If you want an in depth look at her character read Bay Buchanan's book, The Extreme Makeover of Hillary (Rodham) Clinton. For some reason it is probably the least publicized of the recent books on Hillary, but in my view it is the best, the most revealing, the most powerful and the most important.

Whether or not you are a supporter of Hillary, I suspect after reading the book you will be convinced of the author's claims: Hillary is a phony, hypocritical, congenital liar who won't accept responsibility; she's so insecure she relies only on gurus, consultants and other advisers instead of thinking for herself, she's unprincipled; she's far-left liberal despite her pose for purposes of the election; and she's likely to be a big spender and big taxer (she admitted to having a million ideas, which we certainly can't afford).

Take the liar issue as one prime illustration of her character problem. I consider William Safire, a former presidential adviser and columnist for The New York Times, to be one of the soundest, more careful, most reliable and most brilliant thinkers of our time. Here's what he had to say about Hillary (when Bill Clinton was president): "Americans of all political persuasions are coming to the sad realization that our First Lady - a woman of undoubted talents who was a role model for many in her generation - is a congenital liar."

Ms. Buchanan makes the case that Hillary was and is "no respecter of the truth or the law." She writes: "No matter what the questions were about - Whitewater, Madison Guaranty, Jim McDougal, cattle futures, Red Bone, Castle Grande or Rose law firm records - Hillary never gave a straight answer. She bobbed and weaved her way through every inquiry, whether the questions came from the press or from the investigators, whether it was a casual conversation, or whether she was under oath. Her explanation of what occurred changed constantly to keep up with facts that slowly found their way into the public arena."

For example, Hillary told investigators that the Rose law firm records of work for Castle Grande had been shredded. Suddenly, they were found to have been in the White House and finally fell into the possession of her secretary. Ms. Buchanan writes, "The miraculously recovered records proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Hillary had lied about her involvement with both Madison Guaranty and the corrupt real estate deal, Castle Grande."

Ms. Buchanan gives example after example of Hillary lies about almost everything she encountered. For example, on a trip to Nepal back in 1993, she met Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to reach the summit of Mount Everest. She told him that her mother, while pregnant with Hillary, read of Sir Edmund's climb to the top of Everest and named her daughter after him.

"Charming personal anecdote - but pure fabrication," Ms. Buchanan writes. "Hillary was six when Edmund made it up that mountain. Prior to that, her 'namesake' was a quiet beekeeper living in New Zealand. Not likely her mom named her after a beekeeper."

Ms. Buchanan's bottom line on this lie: "Hillary met Sir Edmund and made this story up on the spot - she couldn't resist another close association with someone famous."

She did finally admit this story was a total lie: "In spite of being literally impossible, a fact widely covered on the Internet, Hillary didn't correct it until she was ready to run for president. In October 2006 her campaign spokesman admitted the story was a hoax, or in her words, a 'sweet family story her mother shared to inspire greatness in her daughter.' What's worse - lying or blaming your mother?"

This Sir Edmund Hillary story is all too typical of Hillary's tendencies to pathological lying, something she obviously learned from the master. Ms. Buchanan relates Hillary's performance on NBC's "Dateline," claiming that on 9/11, Chelsea was in danger: "[Chelsea] had gone on what she thought would be a great jog. She was going down to Battery Park; she was going to go around the towers. She was going to get a cup of coffee and that's when the plane hit. ... She did hear it. She did."

That turned out to be a total fabrication. In a magazine a few weeks later, Chelsea described where she was on 9/11, and it was nowhere near the Twin Towers. Ms. Buchanan writes, "Sen. Hillary had lied to make herself more relevant to the day's news - much the same as she had in Nepal after she met Sir Edmund. Unfortunately, what Hillary really is doesn't seem to be good enough for her. So she lies to make it appear she is something more."

Hillary's lies and dishonesty goes beyond stories to boost her ego. Ms. Buchanan relates what happened when Hillary was getting ready to leave the White House and knew that within a week she would be subject to U.S. Senate rules that limited gifts to no more than $100. So she immediately registered with several high-end stores and requested friends and supporters to buy her gifts. This may be acceptable for brides-to-be but not for first ladies leaving the White House - and with an $8 million book contract in hand.

Ms. Buchanan writes, "Hillary called in a few friends to help, and they in turn put out the word to all the rich and famous that Hillary would love them to shower her with gifts before the third of January [to avoid those Senate rules]. To make it easy, the rich friends were told, Hillary had graciously listed the items she wanted at a few of her favorite shopping spots."

And what happened: "Hillary received china, silverware, couches, chairs, tables, lamps, sculptures, wall hangings, a television set and a DVD player. The total value was estimated at $199,000. To further heighten the crassness of this act, Hillary requested gifts of sweaters, pantsuits and a leather jacket. And she got them, thousands of dollars worth. It is unimaginable for a woman in her position and with her income to ask random people to buy her pantsuits. Most women would prefer death."

If that wasn't bad enough, Hillary decided she also needed new furniture, china, books and art objects for her new home in New York. So in January 2001, she began moving White House furniture and material to her home in New York. She took (i.e., stole) $360,000 worth of White House property.

What happened then? "The public outcry was deafening, and the Clintons were forced to return some of the spoils. It is anyone's guess how much they got away with. In addition, to quiet the storm created by the tacky gift scheme, they agreed to pay back $86,000 for the $190,000 worth of gifts."

In her book, Living History, Hillary denied all responsibility for wrongdoing: "The culture of investigation follows us out the door of the White House when clerical errors in the recording of gifts mushroomed into a full-blown flap, generating hundreds of news stories over several months."

Ms. Buchanan develops in detail Hillary's inability to accept responsibility for anything, always blaming it on someone else - such as a vast right-wing conspiracy.

This is just a tiny sample of the indictment of Hillary's character brought together in Ms. Buchanan's book. But I suspect most readers will be able to forget about where Hillary stands on the issues. They may forget she is soft on terror, favors retreat and defeat in Iraq, will push for a national health insurance scheme that will wreck our health delivery system, will push for higher taxes and all kinds of novel and expensive government programs that will wreck our economy, will flip-flop on key issues, will continue to slander and insult our war heroes (as she did in her questioning of Gen. David Petraeus before the Senate) and will stay enslaved to the far left wing of the new Democrat Party.

But there is a more fundamental issue. Ms. Buchanan proves that Hillary does not have the character to be president or, for that matter, to be trusted with any important office, such as dogcatcher. Ms. Buchanan offers this summary: "Hillary's character is not a pretty sight. In stride she can lie, cheat, steal, commit perjury, obstruct justice, malign reputations and destroy the lives of innocent people. Driven by ambition, arrogance, greed, elitism, power and entitlement, Hillary's road to the top has been a bloody one. Reputations and lives of real people have been left in the dirt along the way. But it has worked for Hillary. She made it to the top - and may do so again."

And remember one other bonus in store for us if she does make it to the very top. We get two Clintons for the price of one. Also, if you doubt what you read here, do me one favor and take a look at Bay Buchanan's book on this woman who would be president.

hilllreee can’t be trusted as far as I could throw her. Never have trusted her and never will. There is nothing to trust. SHE is nothing. She has her own little socialist agenda which does nothing for you and me and only advances her to the power to which she is addicted along with her ole willie boy. They are pathetic, dangerous and so predictable. The USA deserves better than these two. Who wants ole willie boy back in the White House anyway? We all know what he will do again to bring disgrace and scandal down on the finest house in the land. Does ANYONE want to put this country through those kinds of nonsensical, abnormal, behaviors again?????? I think NOT!!!

Hillary is Robert Torricelli Redux.

We have to have a candidate who can withstand her big lie campaign and bring the electorate to face the truth.

Wealthy businessman Doug Forrester did that job for New Jersey, and for his pains was defeated by a geriatric retired former Democratic senator when the NJ supreme court allowed Governor McGreevey to do a switch because "Democrats have a right to a candidate with a chance to win."

It's unlikely the Democrats could pull the same thing off on the national level - at least, I hope not. But anyone in the Democratic Party who seriously considers supporting the nomination of Hillary should take a good look in the mirror, just as the Democrats of New Jersey should do over having renominated "Torch" Torricelli.
