Definitely. I think it was his connection to Whitley Strieber and their book. Even Art Bell is on the caveat emptor list.
But there is also this. I started listening in 2000 or early 2001. I enjoyed it a lot. Then at one point Bell repeated a warning almost nightly for about three weeks that something terrible was coming and that it was really big. He didn’t know what it was.
One of the reasons that he felt that big something was coming was that animals were acting weirdly. Sharks attacked off Florida. Squirrels had bit people. Et cetera.
It was getting really hoaky and to be honest annoying me. Although I enjoyed the show, I had to admit to myself that Bell was part P.T. Barnum.
That continued through the night of 9/10/01.
No one since has ever mentioned his precognition.

The Mayan calendar ends at 2012 and there is speculation about why - usually about how their superior culture knew that the world would end then.
I’ve been trying to find a cartoonist to draw one frame: a Mayan slave chisels on a stone slab. He is finishing up the last 2 of 2012. He is surrounded with piles of stone slabs, each with a date on them: 2007, 2008. 2009, 2010, 2011. A superior Mayan (probably with some sort of head dress) stands over the slave with a whip: “Jamie, when you finish that one, knock it off. The queen says the calendar doesn’t match her drapes.”
