PALM BAY -- (AP) -- Police Tasered a teenager Wednesday after the high school student would not stop fighting another student on a school campus, authorities said.

Douglas Frasier, 17, has been charged with battery on a school official, disrupting a school function and resisting arrest.

Frasier and the other student, Arnaldo Disla, were fighting over a girl at Bayside High School, authorities said. Frasier was stunned with the Taser twice and had a head injury after the incident, police said.

''It was not a major head injury,'' said Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for the Palm Bay Police Department.

Disla, 18, is facing a misdemeanor charge of disrupting a school function.

''The officer, her job there is to maintain order and to maintain public safety. . . . It's the officers discretion to determine how to handle the situation,'' Martinez said.

Frasier was taken to Palm Bay Community Hospital, where he was treated for the head injury and released, Florida Today reported. He was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice and was expected to appear before a juvenile court judge Thursday, the newspaper reported.

A telephone message left after hours at the Brevard County Schools office by The Associated Press was not immediately returned. It was not clear if either student had legal representation.

The government schools are dangerous to the health and education of the decent children who are there to learn. This is truly the land of chads and dimples.

“Not a major head injury ...”

What do you expect if you get zapped by 50,000 volts?

Pay attention and get control of your emotions, and don’t get zapped.

Next, it will be required to have three officers to Taser someone, one to catch the Tasee, one to cup their head in a pillow and one to zap the creep.

There is no high school girl worth getting tazed, unless maybe she was a Kobe Tai.

The tazer was originally intended to be an altenative to deadly force in dangerous situations. I had no problems with that. I would much rather see a knife wielding crazy tazed, than a police officer stabbed trying to disarm them. As it stands now, the tazer is used routinley and frequently to get people to obey police commands. I have seen so many incedents of it’s use recently, to force obedience, that have decided that it’s use should be ended. 50,000 volts can and does kill. Police agencys across the country are totally out of control with this technology. As for anyone who disagrees with me on this, You will probably change your mind when you encouter a rude unreasonable officer who trounces on your rights. Stop and argue, get tazed.

zap the creep

We don't know the whole story here. What if the 17 year old was your kid, a good kid, who was enraged at the behavior of the 18 year old. What if the 18 year old provoked the incident, started the fight and got your kid so emotional that he wasn't thinking clearly.

Would you want your 17 year old tazed, risking death from his heart stopping, to get him to immediatly obey the police?

I hope your answer is no!

I tend to agree with you, except for the fact that tasers are being overused.
I also have recently seen more than a few highly publicised cases where tasers shouldn’t even have been used in the first place (repeatedly reported by the MSM every night)but the number of actual tasering incidents still seem rare and widely scattered.

Is there a reporting requirement for police departments to record and publically report the number of incidents of taser discharges?
If not, there should be, IMHO.
