Alexandria GLCA Scholarship Dedicated to Karen Gautney & Sue Misslbeck
At the Alexandria [Gay and Lesbian Community Association's] GLCA's September 4th Social, the 2007-2008 Board of Directors officially dedicated our annual scholarship award to Karen Gautney and Sue Misslbeck in a ceremony attended by approximately 70 members and guests.
During her two year tenure as Alexandria GLCA President, Karen and her first-year Board of Directors founded the scholarship fund which rewards a TC Williams High School senior with a $1,500 stipend to assist with college expenses. Over the past two years, Karen, her partner Sue, and AGLCA members, friends, and allies from around the country have worked to endow our scholarship fund to approximately $25,500. Our goal is to grow this fund so that we can place additional scholarships to deserving high school seniors.
The inscription on the dedication plaque reads as follows:
"The 2007-2008 Board of Directors and Membership of the Alexandria Gay and Lesbian Community Association are proud to laud and salute Karen Gautney and Sue Misslbeck for their inspirational dedication and dauntless commitment to the AGLCA Scholarship Fund. Be it known and understood by all, that from this 4th day of September 2007, the annual scholarship award endowed by this fund will henceforth be recognized as the Alexandria Gay and Lesbian Community Association Scholarship presented in Honor of Karen Gautney and Sue Misslbeck. " Special guests at this Social were Alexandria Mayor William Euille, Alexandria City Council Member Justin Wilson, SMYAL Executive Director Tasha Hill, and Director for The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, Susan Yowell.

Gay index: 197
Gay male index: 262
Lesbian index: 131
National norm: 100
About the Gay index
The gay index is a comparative score, based on the percentage of people reporting in the 2000 U.S. Census that they lived in a same-sex partnership.
A score of 100 is the national norm. A number above 100 indicates that the local proportion of same-sex unmarried households is higher than the national average. For example, 140 would mean that the proportion was 40 percent higher than the national norm. A score of 60 would be 40 percent lower.
This statistic is not an absolute measure of gay households. Not everyone who lives in such a relationship is gay; not everyone who is gay lives in such a relationship; and some who do may feel uncomfortable saying so on a census return. However, responses to the question, asked of all U.S. households, provide a good indicator of gay relationships in a community.
ePodunk publishes three measures: a combined gay male/lesbian score called the gay index, a score for gay males and a score for lesbians. The indexes are provided for the 1,360 U.S. communities in which 50 or more couples reported living in such relationships.
Statistics were analyzed by Gary Gates, a demographer at the Urban Institute and co-author of The Gay and Lesbian Atlas.
How’d you like to be the RECIPIENT of the faggot/dyke scholarship, to be able to brag to all your friends of how you were “selected” to be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO honored?
...just shaking my head...
Let’s add a stipulation...Money to be returned WITH INTEREST to date in the event they engage in a heterosexual raltionship.
Highly politically incorrect in Alexandria to suggest a straight only scholorship.
Only in High School and they are encouraging kids to have ‘partners’.....It is nice they are giving scholarships, but when they use it to promote an immoral and unhealthy lifestyle there should be outrage.
Would they allow scholarships from the Minutemen?
Can someone tell me how to include a photo in a post please? Thanks
Damnit, I am STILL fighting for the regular scholarship with everyone else. Not gay, not ‘ethnic’. Shoot.
Uhhhh...high school is free. Hello?
Do an FR search for HTML Boot Camp
Thanks

Wow, are they behind the times or what?
No mention of bi, trans-gender, gender-neutral, or any other deviants .....
Cool, someone got a scholarship. Good for them.
Gee, we had the similar award for the biggest queer when I was in HS back in the 60s. If he was caught eye-balling another boy in the shower or bathroom, he got his jaw jacked. Now, he/she gets money for the same deviant behavior, and the more deviant, the more money.
Scholarships for your sexual orientation....for what you do in the bathroom stall? The hand is on the handle and ready to flush.
