May 5, 2003-Governor Mike Huckabee addressed the Arkansas General Assembly, pleading with them to pass a tax, any tax. He ticked off a list of various taxes that he would find acceptable, a tax on tobacco, a surcharge on the income tax, a sales tax... "I will very happily sign that," he proclaimed.

Now I understand why the people of Arkansas so vehemently oppose the Huckster . This is quite damning to say the least ...

It’s frustrating for Arkansans to see conservatives in other states latch onto Huckabee since we saw his true colors for 10 years while he was governor. He gives a great speech but his record doesn’t back up his rhetoric. Thanks for checking out the link. Apparently it just showed up on Drudge so many others will see it too.

First question to ask any candidate: Are you running ON your record or FROM it?

These guys always pick on tobacco. That’s the biggest discrimination tax there is. If they want to add or increase a tax, share the problem with everyone. The tobacco tax is like just taxing one minority group. We all know where that would end up.

Oh, my.

This won't play well in Iowa. Not at all. Couple this with his soft-headed support for taxpayer funded higher education for the children of illegal aliens and his incipient surge in the polls could be entirely snuffed out if this clip gets widespread distribution.

This may have been hurtful to a contender, but it’s hard to torpedo a candidate who’s never left drydock.

Now, it should be clear to everyone, Huckabee is a liar, a fake and a fraud, why, he’s just another huckleberry from hope trying to create and then ride a wave of populism!

A noteworthy post.

So, is he lying now when he says he won’t raise taxes or was he lying then when he said he’d raise any and all taxes?

Hmmm. I think the governor needs an accountability partner.

Well he did raise our taxes multiple times so I guess he’s lying now.

Interesting. I assume you have looked into the background of this...can you give us any context into why he was calling for these higher taxes?

Actually, the biggest discrimination tax is the success tax — also known as the progressive income tax.

As you smoke more, your additional tax remains a fixed percentage relative to the cost of your smoking. As you earn more, your additional tax becomes a higher percentage of what you earned.

Higher taxes on smokers have the putative nanny state goal that it is for the smoker’s own good, to discourage unhealthy behaviour. Higher taxes on higher income have no such goal of helping the people taxed, it is simply acknowledged as a punishment for being “too” successful.

When it comes to taxes, the hgih earners are the most discriminated against in America.

Because of the slow-down in the economy back in 2003, Huckabee was calling for tax increases as the solution to raise more revenue.

Thanks. That guy was third on my potential candidate list behind Thompson and Hunter. He is now completely off my list. I don’t care about the context or reason. The words speak volumes.
