Agency's Message: No Reason To Fear Us
Washington Post ^ | November 10, 2007 | Karin Brulliard

The Northern Virginia office of the federal agency that processes immigration applications will hold its first public forum next month to answer questions from immigrants. The forum also is intended to spread word that the agency, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, or USCIS, is distinct from its feared federal cousins, the Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. "We don't want people to fear us," said Greg Christian, director of the Vienna office of USCIS....

The agency is often assailed...as an impenetrable bureaucracy with complicated forms and a help hotline that dispenses unreliable information. It has also recently been under fire for raising application fees. But USCIS does not arrest illegal immigrants. That is usually the province of ICE or U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which also are divisions of the Department of Homeland Security. Immigrants often confuse the agencies, Christian said. p> Officials will explain the differences at the meeting Dec. 1 at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Annandale, Christian said...

Christian said "there is nothing stopping" illegal immigrants from attending and said ICE officials have assured him they will not raid the event. The agency wants to hold more forums, he said, and a raid at the first one would doom the plan..."That's also a reason we are holding it at a church. It connotes sanctuary," he said....

Nothing stopping illegals from attending? ICE won't raid? Why not? If they qualify for citizenship, they have nothing to fear. And the idea of a USCIS officials talking about church "sanctuary"! Why give them ideas about illegal behavior? Who, exactly, is he planning to attract to this event? And complaining about the fees? Citizenship for foreigners is a privilege, not a right, and they should pay the costs, not the taxpayers.

ICE officials have assured him they will not raid the event

Why would they? ICE can't be bothered with Mexican protest parades down Main Street either.

So Christian is holding a “sanctuary” vent. He should be fired. And the event should be raided.

It “connotes” or denotes so-called sanctuary?

And why would REAL immigrants be afraid of law enforcement of any kind?

Why would illegal laiens be at an immigration forum?

Ilegal aliens do not have the legal staus or right to “immigrate” There is no legal provision in the immigration laws for illegal aliens who have entered the US illegally and continue to stay here in an illegal status to apply for immigration privileges...However, illegal aliens and anyone aiding and abetting them can go to jail or be deported...

I’m glad this is a forum, which denotes an open mic invitation.....though I notice REAL American citizens are not invited...

American citizens should attend and speak up...

Not only that, Nana, but somehow the Virginia lists need to be “pinged” and some Freepers definitely need to go there with a tape recorder! They need to catch any kind of on record comment that gives a pass to illegals, any pandering at all, then transcript it, and throw up the audio on YouTube or some other site. I am sure Michelle Malkin, Lou Dobbs, etc. would do their part.
