DIVERSITY TRAINING

Next summer, the 2008 Olympic Trials will be held in Eugene, Oregon. But anyone that volunteers to work the event must undergo special training ... in diversity.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/O/OR_BLACKS_TRACK_OROL-?SITE=ORBEN&SECTION=STATE&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

The Blacks on Track Team committee wants to make sure that black athletes and their families feel at home in the city, which has a black population of less than 2%.

The committee is in charge of educating 1,800 volunteers about "the need for cultural sensitivity."

Volunteers will all be required to undergo this training, but hundreds of workers from local businesses, restaurants and retail stores will also be invited to the diversity indoctrination sessions.

The committee doesn't yet know the specifics of what will be taught during the training, but they said examples could include alerting athletes to the types of restaurants, hair salons or religious services they may be accustomed to.

Another part of the training will be to teach the volunteers not to assume that every unfamiliar black person in Eugene is an athlete or a supporter.

Eugenians (??) may also be taught not to say such things as "pull your pants up" or "Excuse me, but did you know that you still have a sticker on your baseball cap?"

Volunteers might also be taught appropriate greetings. For example, this is according to the committee, greetings between two black people may be inappropriate to use between a white an a black person. I'm not even going there.

But I do wonder if they're going to teach those nifty 15-second long handshake deals?

The Blacks on Track Team has already met with police to plan for the four-day diversity training. Four days? Why in the hell does it take four days to dole out this horsesqueeze? But the police will also be taught how to guard against racial profiling.

What an amazing joke. I wonder if they're going to be teaching the athletes that people in Eugene might not like them to go around with 1000 watt bass systems in their cars turned up to full volume?

“Diversity” will be one of the vices that destroys this country.

Are they going to hold classes to teach blacks how to behave in the presence of white people?

I just love the assumptions being made by the Eugene-oids.

I can only imagine what it’s going to feel like arriving and being greeted in halting Ebonics.

Well, I guess everyone should be served chitlin’s once in their lives...

Will they force the white women of Eugene to be ‘nappy-haired’?

"The Blacks on Track Team committee"

Looks like we've found the real racists in the story.

Great question.

Basically, I see "diversity training" as "don't hold certain groups to your community's standards of behavior".

This sort of training only makes sense if it is aimed at the minority group and intended to help them adapt to the ways of the majority group.

Diversity training usually attempts to change the majority group by having them learn to adapt to the minority group. That's stupid.

But are we absolutely certain Neal did not swallow someones onion?

Nowadays it’s impossible to distinguish the bad PC jokes from the reality.

The answer to your question is obvious:

“Why in the hell does it take four days to dole out this horsesqueeze?”

Indoctrination takes time. White guilt and privilege must be repeatedly embedded into the brains. Most of these people have never seen a black person. Four days is excessive for most liberal brains in Eugene. In a recent study, three days were found insufficient to indoctrinate conservative brains. In the fourth day, resistance breaks so that conservative brains turn PC.

The most charitable message this sends is that Eugene residents are ignorant.

Remember the eight day delay in getting Firemen to New Orleans because they had to get Diversity Training in Atalanta?

Soul food, hair extensions, and a Baptist church? </sarcasm>

Can't the diverse Blacks on Track Team use Google or GPS to find what they need?
