The FBI is warning that al Qaeda may be preparing a series of holiday attacks on U.S. shopping malls in Los Angeles and Chicago, according to an intelligence bulletin distributed to law enforcement authorities across the country this morning.

How long have a number of us warned that exactly that could happen?
It is exactly the sort of thing a cell of 6 to ten terrorists could easily pull off. They do it right they may even get away.

And the reason they haven't done such attacks (AFAIK) since 9-11...
...is?
I get the feeling that Al Qaeda just loves those attacks that
make for a great poster-representation: The WTC, The Pentagon,
and maybe The White House.
And attack on malls in the USA?
That's about as non-photogenic as the Palistinian bomb-belt
attacks on Israelis.

Seeing how some of those are operated by Hindus and Sikhs...
you'd think they'd selectively target some of those shops!

This comes up every year. Some time it actually will happen, but as I have all my gift giving all planned out, I should be OK. It doesn’t include malls, which I hate for the crowds around the holidays anyway.
The day I’d watch for first would be the day after Thanksgiving. It’d be a great way to start the season.

I carry mine everywhere except a courthouse that has metal detectors regardless of what sign is on the door.
Even to school ( no metal detectors ) to drop off or pick up kids. It is concealed nobody sees it until I need it.
