Judge wants speedy Bakr trial
Disappointed at delays
-Imran Ali

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The High Court judge in the trial of Jamaat-al- Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr yesterday expressed his disappointment that the case would not make it to trial until next year, because of the number of pretrial issues that have to first be determined.
He said that while he appreciated that the issues were important, there had to be some “movement forward” with the case.
One of the main issues Abu Bakr’s lawyers have raised is the legality of the Anti-Terrorism Act, under which one of the five charges against Abu Bakr was brought. On Monday, Justice Mark Mohammed ruled that a constitutional motion should be filed to have that point decided.
The case was recalled in the Port of Spain Sixth Criminal Court yesterday, and one of Abu Bakr’s attorneys, Mark Seepersad, said it would be at least one more month before he could file the motion.”
