"Pazin said. He called the crime "barbaric," saying the heat from the fire was so intense, the plastic zip-ties around Avina's feet had melted into her flesh. "She was bound and literally left for dead," Pazin said.
Investigators believe the suspects in the case tied Avina at her hands and feet, placed a bag over her head and sometime early Wednesday morning drove her to a location on South Avenue in the Ballico area, between Pepper Street and Ballico Avenue."

‘Avina was on parole at the time the crime occurred. She was arrested in 2000 for assault with a deadly weapon and was convicted in 2002, sentenced to two years in prison, Barile said. She was released on parole and had returned to prison for subsequent parole violations for narcotics possession in recent years, he added.’
Sounds like either she was preparing to testify against somebody, or was thought to be an informant to me.
btw, I totally agree with the monsters in our midst comment - just to be clear. Nobody deserves a fate like this. With 95% burns, she’s as good as gone. I just hope she can ID who did it before she passes on.
Absolutely horrifying.
After reading the details it sounds like it may be gang/drug related.
You probably know more about this than I do, but I do know of someone who sustained 3rd degree burns over 99% of her body and was in great pain before she died.
But whatever...still a terrible way to go.
I agree. In reading the article it seems to point to gangs and drugs. There are so many possibilities here. Maybe she was an informant, or maybe she didn’t pay her drug debt. In any case, this is monstrous. I think I heard on the news that this is actually the second human burning in that area in the last few months. And in this case, the people who found her couldn’t tell if she was male or female.
Prayers for this lady.
Man oh man, does she ever need them.

It could be. On the other hand, there are some really cruel and vicious people out there...some of them just kids.
Recently, we had an elderly woman who was brutally beaten and stabbed by a teenager in her neighborhood. Robbery apparently the motive, but why he beat and stabbed her so viciously has not been made known. Family and friends say the woman would have just handed over her money and property to the kid...she wouldn’t have resisted. Our young people are becoming desensitized to violence and that’s a shame.
Most murder victims are felons with a long history of antisocial conduct.
Hmmmm. A pattern, huh?
If her burw were that severe, she had no pain...but she is not going to live either....
Anyone ever seen "Remember Charlie"?
This is a safety awareness video that is pretty popular. One that even I say all should see. It will make you and your family more safety conscious in you home, at work, in your car. Charlie tells his life story, starting with his days at the refinery and his attitude about work and safety. He ends up with his life on that stage. In between, he is very graphic about the horror he went through after being burned over a large % of his body for many years. It is absolutely gut wrenching. He is pretty disfigured but an incredible speaker.
The short of it is, one can hardly imagine misery.
absolutely...she will be dead within two weeks. A person doesn’t survive a burn like that.
Sadly, I would not be surprised in the least if this was the work of thrill-seekers. A few years back here in Toronto a group of teenagers set a homeless man on fire just for kicks.
I think I heard about that story, or something similar. As I said, these youngsters just don’t get the true concept of death.
I’ll bet her thoughts were, “Why didn’t I carry a small handgun all the time!”
The victim.
Thank you.
