If they “expected” the attack, then why couldn’t they prevent it?

I read the article before posting comment to you the first time. Both paragraphs of it. Did I miss something?
Russia is deep in bed with Syria and has been since the ‘60s. I don’t know any specifics of current PDR Chinese involvement but it’s safe to assume it’s there to some degree.

If they expected the attack, then why couldnt they prevent it? The Germans "expected" an Anglo-American/Canadian invasion of Europe and there was absolutely nothing they could do to prevent it.

Not a good comparison. The Germans couldn't prevent it, but they made us pay dearly.
About all the syrians could do was watch.
