Inhofe Warns of Global Warming Laws

GOP Sen. James Inhofe, ranking member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, faulted Democratic Chairwoman Barbara Boxer's leadership of the committee this morning in the most recent of a series of attacks on her handling of global warming legislation.

At a hearing on human health effects of global warming, Inhofe implied that she was distracting members with studies of what might happen from global warming rather than focusing on "what will happen if we legislate global warming." Inhofe believes that any mandatory cap on greenhouse gas emissions will bear too great a cost for the economy for too little benefit.

The Oklahoma senator noted, "As of October 23, we have not had a single legislative hearing on any of the major bills." At a much anticipated subcommittee hearing tomorrow, Sens. Joe Lieberman and John Warner will unveil their bipartisan cap-and-trade program, but Inhofe complained that the hearings process is giving analysis of the bill short shrift. A markup of the bill is likely to occur next week.

"There has been no time to analyze the text of this bill, or for members of the committee to obtain input from stakeholders concerned about how the bill will impact them," said Inhofe, "or for economists to model its impacts on the competitiveness of the American economy."

Looks like the Senate is going to push this through quickly like they tried with the Amnesty+ bill.

I have dibs on December 10 as being the day Gore announces in China he has struck a “deal” with the Chinese for them to set carbon caps.

Who will make the India announcement? I've heard several politicians say that there must be a "global solution" that includes China and India. This would be funny to watch if these folks weren't so destructive.

That’s not fair, Harry Reid is far smarter.

Did you know that the UN thinks that the cost of dealing with global warming has been totally debunked? According to Rajendra Pachauri, the head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the cost “to stabilize the concentration of greenhouse gases at the level that will limit temperature increases to 2 degrees to 2.4 degrees centigrade, the cost to the global economy in 2030 will be less than 3 percent.”

What geniuses are these UN scientists! They can predict with certainty the impact of environmental restrictions on CO2 levels, the impact of reduced CO2 levels on global temperatures, and the resulting cost of this effort. They can make these predictions 25 years in advance. Three percent is just a small price to pay for this grand experiment.

Don’t you feel comforted knowing that the UN has everything figured out? All we need to do is just turn our economy over to the UN. Isn’t that what the rats want to do?

I wish I had had those links about a month ago.

I was in a debate that got turned into a rant about global warming, and one of the main points a die-hard believer in global warming kept making was that his view was backed up by more scientists and that the only ones who didn’t believe in global warming were a group of geologists who were paid by Bush to say that they didn’t believe it.
