Israel obtained detailed photographs from inside an alleged Syrian nuclear facility prior to carrying out an air strike on September 6, ABC News reported Friday night. ...Mossad had discovered in the summer that Syria was constructing a nuclear facility and proceeded to either place a mole inside the plant or convince one of the workers to supply Israel with intelligence. ...Israel urged the US to carry out the attack, the ABC report said, and US officials began examining options for a strike. Possible tactics were assessed, including the possibility of a helicopter raid. However, word came from the White House that the US preferred not to attack...

Sounds as though the Jerusalem Post is being as helpful to the war effort as the New York Times in publishing military secrets. How long does anyone think that mole has left to live now? How long before his identity is discovered?

SOP. The Israelis had a mole among the French technicians working on the Osirak reactor back in ‘81. He was the only casualty of the raid. He may or may not have been activating radio beacons inside the reactor vessel when the IAF blowed it up real good.

Syria will now suspect every engineer and chemist on their payroll. This is good.

I bet it's a head game. There was no mole.

But lots of suspected "moles" have been killed since.

The JePo is the WaPo of Israel.

Well, we’re assuming the story is even true, and not
just something the IDF planted so they could snicker
at the JePo. But on that assumption ...

There’s a decent chance the rumored ground team
egressed the mole when they departed.

According to Khidir Hamza (”Saddam’s Bombmaker,” 2000) there was a loud, late night argument amongst the French contingent at their hotel the next evening with the result one of them was found floating face-down in the pool the next morning.

There’s another possibility to be considered. By leaking the idea that there was a mole, the Israelis sow discord and paranoia in the Syrian establishment, distracting them from their aggressive efforts.

should decisions regarding national defense and the well-being of the country ever (including our commitments to others) be influenced by fear of political fall-out, then we will be openly inviting catastrophic attacks of one kind or another.

Has a more complete, 2 page story. And from that story:
“It was a place, the official said, “where no one would ever go unless you had a reason to go there.”
Like my bathroom.

The Mole is living it up in Miami, enjoying his new identity.

We should spread rumor that US has a mole inside New York Times. That mole pretends to be one of them but is in fact a patriotic US citizen who wants US to succeed. That would have a chilling effect at al-NYT, everybody would be a suspect.
