"The Republican governor also announced he had approved a measure by Assemblyman Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, that creates a 10-year, $250 million subsidy program to help consumers buy solar water heaters."

Having been foolish enough to jump on the solar hot water bandwagon back in '84 when the first solar subsidy was offered, I find this idea tragic. Solar collectors can only last about 3 years in soft water areas, before the dissolution of the metal tubes results in leakage. In hard water areas, the calcium tuberculation often blocks them within about five years.

Isn't insanity fun?

“Insanity” doesn’t even begin to describe it. As I understand it, these subsidies will be coming to us via rate increases imposed by the PUC. I haven’t looked into it in detail, but I expect those on the receiving end of this folly will have some connection to the same folks that have been funding our “popular” “post-partisan” governor.

But there’s another possibility. There’s a possibility that we’re right, and that the inevitable economic realities of these outrageous regulations are already beginning to destroy California’s once-vibrant economy in a dark and miserable example of human folly.

that will limit all new toilets to 1.3 gallons per flush instead of 1.6 gallons

So then we'll have to flush 4 times instead of 3 to do the job 1 used to do...otherwise, it'll mess up a home/septic system right quick.

Hey Arsenator, we ain't all on City sewer -

Glad I got outta that state a quarter century ago - lived there 10 years - that was 9 1/2 years too long.

McBookmark to the man who should have been Governor, but nooo, we needed a movie star. Thanks, Sean Hannity and Rick Roberts, you star-struck douchebags!

I'm getting this same feeling all over again with Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter.

Tom McClintock is a really bright guy. I wish he would run for Congress. The incumbent from his district (Elton Gallegly) is a real flake, though good on the issues.

I have a major political crush on Tom. I voted for him and went through the delusion that this state might have one last chance when he was leading in the polls briefly. Unfortunately, Tom McClintock has common sense and is a very decent person which is a death knell in this state.

What we see in California is our future. Severe and ever-increasing destitution for the ordinary Californian—living in extremely cramped quarters, erratic and expensive electricity and other utilities, toiling multiple jobs just to pay taxes and yet afford very basic living expenses—comes courtesy of severe and ever-increasing government regulation.

The deeply unbalanced federal budget will develop a severe and ever-increasing crisis as none dare consider decreasing the politically sacrosanct but rapidly expanding mandatory spending on welfare. Only dramatic and persistently successive increases in taxes on all ordinary Americans (except the rich donors to the Hillary campaign) can bring the federal government the revenue necessary to meet even its present obligations. With each successive tax increase shock, the economy will decline ever more, necessitating ever more tax hikes.

The upcoming generation of political leaders—most notoriously Hillary Clinton—will obligate their successors via international treaty under the auspices of the Moral Authority of the United Nations to oversee our national economic collapse in all sectors emitting or otherwise contributing to carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases. Some proposals suggest a tax that if now imposed would yield conservatively $6-7 trillion in its first year, about half the entire American economy, in addition to all other federal and non-federal taxes and its accompanying regulatory impact. Other proposals mandate a general 4-12% economic decline every year and make much now-common technology either extremely expensive or altogether unavailable. These proposals to solve climate change make the Great Depression look brief and pleasant.

Hillary Rodham Clinton once elected also promises a universal health-care plan, denying decent medical care to practically all politically unconnected ordinary Americans, even those still otherwise able to afford it. She also promises numerous other initiatives to consume whatever crumbs we yet salvage for our hungry children before they can devour their pittance. Speaking of food, she just announced a proposal for a national diet plan.

Although she devotes much energy toward creating threats to the American people and inflicting much suffering upon them, she seems deeply confused and duplicitous about the real threat of Islamofascism. So we can expect a nuclear Islamic Republic of Iran, perhaps a few ineffectual military raids, and many uninhibited terrorist attacks at home.

Some more onerous and odious regulations perhaps might expire after the end of her term or fade from view under succeeding Administrations. But international treaties bind us forever until the other party agrees to release us. We conceivably might develop technology within the confines and subject to the taxes imposed from Washington, but so too might the workers of the Soviet state prosper. So all hope is not lost, but there’s a realistic reason for all the gloom throughout the land. Prepare now for the Restored Stone Age.
