It’s true that the divide is there, and it’s not likely to be healed.

However, what do you propose we do? It’s not meant as a question to cause an arguement, but I don’t know what to do about it myself.

I only see two options, both highly unlikely: Either they (the lib wingnuts) suddenly have a massive wake-up and decide to join the rest of us to save the nation, or we go to war against each other, with one side or the other being weakened or eliminated.

(Yes, I sometimes tend to think in extremes.)

I have no clue what to do. Just an observation. The mechanism for sustaining the divide is firmly in place. The libs use the media and the schools to indoctrinate young minds. Conservatives use parenting skills and private schools/home schooling to counter the lib techniques.

A lib wake up is nearly impossible. A civil war is unlikely. I see a slow decline of the republic due to constant assault from within. The end game will be the North American Union. The USA will end up as a quaint old notion.

I don't find your thought extreme - of course I'm in the middle of the enemy camp....Seattle.

The only thing short of war that might help up here is if coffee brewing was found to cause global warming.

Another option is that the liberals (aka Communists) manage to trick the majority into allowing them to force themselves upon everyone. It's been done before...many times.

It's hard to tell exactly where the rabbit hole will take us, to borrow a few lines from Mr. Carroll, but the destination doesn't look pretty.

You’re not the only one who thinks in extremes. Every now and then, when I am thoroughly pissed off at the left, I feel a liberal/conservative war would be nice expecially when most of the troops that defend our country are from the Southern states. The massive wake-up call thingie is asking too much of them. Their delusions run too deep. Only another house on us by their “friends” in the middle east could possibly shake their liberal leftist foundations. Otherwise, I’m with you - totally clueless on a solution.

Put me down for #2.

The true blue libs know who they are and what they are after: they are committed socialists and thus masters of exploitation of ANY and ALL schisms in society to further their cause of social collectivism. But (thankfully) their numbers are pretty minuscule in this land. Yet since 9/11 they've been able to pull the squishy middle, those noncommittal, apolitical "independents," those who don't know better and don't care to know either, to their side. Those independents, who would have run as if the Devil himself was after them IF they understood who and what they were endorsing, are the reason for the success of the leftists of our time.

We must stop griping -- or fighting -- amongst ourselves -- Rudy or Romney or Third Party! -- and speak more directly to those "independents" who are told over and over again that "war is bad" but never told what is even worst.
