Sad to see and read about her addictions and their effects. Sometimes all you can do is hope they hit bottom and begin recovery before they die.

I hate drugs with a deep passion. They rob us of some of the most beautiful talent. Whitney Houston comes to mind.

I have a good friend who went through many years of problems with drugs, alcohol, and what I’d call minor episodes of self mutilation (she’d cut herself on the arms when she was under stress). She went to AA and turned her life around and is now about a year away from getting her PhD at one of the top schools in the U.S. We all have our weaknesses, whether we’re aware of them or not.

Um, unless they become addicted via pain medication following some injury, then yes many addicts got there via "weak-minded" behaviors like poor impulse control, thrill seeking behavior, immaturity, yeilding to peer pressure, selfishness, rebelliousness, escapism and a host of other things that all boil down to the same thing, being weak-minded.
