I think there's less to this than meets the eye. This gal calls politicians to ingratiate herself rather than the various defense agencies and then wonders what happens when the politicians contact the agencies who in turn download the info? Then she runs straight to the WaPost?

I'm not ready to string anybody up until I've heard more...and from somewhere other than the Compost.

Rxactly. Nearly all the most damaging leaks, and ALL of the "thefts" of personal information on present and former members of the military has been perpetrated by "analysts".

Unfortunately, some posters will twist anything in order to bash Bush with it, even though it makes them look like the types who's knuckles drag on the floor. They're worse than Democrats because Democrats make no secret of being the enemy.

It gave two senior officials access on the condition that the officials not reveal they had it until the al-Qaeda release.

Within 20 minutes, a range of intelligence agencies had begun downloading it from the company's Web site. By midafternoon that day, the video and a transcript of its audio track had been leaked from within the Bush administration to cable television news and broadcast worldwide.

The cable news networks will protect the secrets of the Harry Potter franchise of books but screw anything that would protect this country when a Republican is serving his elected term of office.

And it was unlikely to be "Bush" appointees as much as it is the shadow government of Clintonistas who weren't run off when the administrations changed.

Please let us remember that SITE institute and other similar agencies make money by monitoring terrorist websites, they are not serving the country for free. The financial interests play a big role on how these folks approach this whole issue of terrorist websites and forums.

Great post Toby. SITE is overrating how much they know. I will not be surprised at all that they got this Bin Laden tape from a terrorist forum and it was not a very private thing. The scenario that I imagine, (I can be wrong), is that a certain terrorist forum got hold with Bin Laden terrorist video and publish it for a short period of time before it was released by Al Sahab which is the official media wing of Al Qaeda. SITE happened to be monitoring this SITE at that time and was able to download the video. The Bin Laden video was latter pulled out by the terrorist website until it was officially released by Al Sahab.

In fact that day, September 7 I was monitoring a lot of terrorist websites and forums and the rumor was that a terrorist forum called "Sunan" unintentionally published the video before Al Sahab officially released it.

I agree with you. May be there is something else coming soon that can greatly effect the financial profit of SITE which is making money by monitoring terrorist websites and passing some “public information” posted on these sites with “translations” to the government and media outlets.

Joseph this will help explain some things...seems several people knew how to get in AQ's backroom...not just SITE....and an FYI...if Rusty is right....the leaker is inside the WHITE HOUSE.

I’ve been impressed by some of the US web-hosting companies lately that took a lot of the propagandist websites off-line and have for the most part kept them off-line. I’ll go to them every now and then to see if they’ve reappeared but so far so good.
