Air America Launches Nationwide Atheism Program

The liberal talk radio network Air America announced this week it will launch a nationwide show focusing on atheism. The first national show will feature Christopher Hitchens, author of "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything."

The Freethought Radio Program, hosted by the co-presidents of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, has been airing on Air America's Madison, Wis., affiliate since April 2006.

On Saturday, Oct. 6, the show will begin airing on 14 other affiliates from Palm Springs, Fla., to Eugene, Ore., and on XM Satellite radio.

"You can turn on the radio or TV 24/7 to be preached at," Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the FFRF, said in a statement. "This is one hour a week of the public airwaves that offers an alternative."

Gaylor said the program "offers irreverent views, news, music and interviews," including a regular news feature called "Theocracy Alert."

Peter Sprigg, vice president for policy at the Family Research Council, noted that atheists have the same free speech rights as all Americans. Yet, as he told Cybercast News Service, "I doubt atheist radio will be any more popular than liberal radio."

"Conservative talk radio dominates, as do Christian radio programs," he said. "I don't think Dr. James Dobson, with Focus on the Family, has anything to worry about from atheist radio."

Sprigg further said that liberals often claim that one can be a Christian and a liberal at the same, but, in his view, the step to promote atheism on the airwaves is indicative perhaps that liberalism is incompatible with traditional religious belief.

Laughing at these "people's" stupidity doesn't even seem to be enough anymore.

AAR just lost all four Hawaii affiliates with no fanfare or news about it.

I'm sure atheist propaganda is going to be a hit with the American people!

I'm an atheist and you couldn't pay me to listen to this.

I don't have the time to listen to whiney libs braying about how they're persecuted because 90+% of the population believes in God and they don't. I imagine it will have a lot of call-ins from people who were "given dirty looks" and "weren't invited to social events" and other such horrors because of their heroic non-belif.

This is probably being put on only so the rest of AA's lineup seems less boring.

Liberalism and atheism: two reasons no one listens to Err America.

I am ashamed of Madison, where I was born and which is right next door to Middleton, where I was raised. Middleton was chosen this past summer by Money Magazine as the best place in USA to live and work.
Guess they missed the contamination of Air America on the local airwaves, huh????

Al Franken and Rhandi Rhodes—two more reasons no one listens to Air America.

The thing I don’t understand...if God doesn’t exist, why would you want to waste your time talking about Him? Oh wait, that’s because 15% of atheists actually don’t believe and the other 85% are emotionally mad and angry at God and Christianity.

They are highly sensitive about what they consider to be a fantasy. So much so they devote a lot of energy towards eradicating it from the American landscape.

Since over 90% of all Americans state they believe in God, what audience are they aiming at?

We already have college radio for that, and I think most Americans would rather be preached at than preached against. And I thought Air America Radio was supposed to be out of business. Will somebody tell me what's going on, inasmuch as they've never broadcast from a city where I could pick up their signal?

Not long ago, I was driving through a part of Texas that had very little radio reception. I finally ended up with a signal from some station that was airing a repeat broadcast of some air America program.

While the program itself was stupid beyond belief, two things struck me. One was that they had very few callers, and the other was that they had very few paying sponsors. Most of their breaks were filled with public service announcements.

They are purely evil. How can anyone be so blind as to strive to be atheist, perverted, or otherwise immoral to the tune of “freedom”? Pure evil...

This is actually kindof a confirmation of my belief that truly religious people are grounded in conservatism, and athiests are more likely to favor liberal leftist beliefs.

I won’t go into this in depth now, but I do believe a very good case could be made for this concept.

I always wonder what is up with these people who have the darwin fish or some non-sense like that on their car. OK, we get it. You don’t believe in God. I swear, I think these people would have meetings except then they would be too much like a religion.
