ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Under federal investigation for embellishing his Army service in Vietnam, a groggy-sounding Mayor Robert Levy called in sick at City Hall, climbed into his city-issued Dodge Durango and seemingly dropped off the face of the Earth.
The mystery and the gathering scandal over Levys military record have worried civic leaders in this seaside casino resort, which has a long history of corruption, with four of the last eight mayors busted on graft charges and one-third of last years nine-member City Council in prison or under house arrest.

Is this guy still stuck in junior high or what?
Why doesn’t he just say that his dog ate his service records?

Wierd. Best quote in there “Atlantic City is doing fine without a Mayor.”

Oh, well, they can easily get another. It’s not like there’s a shortage of sleazy characters in NJ.

Cloaking device? UFOs?
Wish he'd taken about half the federal gov't with him

God....I hate Atlantic City Casino’s. Anyone who goes to Vegas even once will never want to go to a A.C casino ever again. Another thing about the place. Never leave the boardwalk. Go a block behind the casino’s after dark and you are practically commiting suicide. The city is a blighted dump.

Sarge, I live about 20 miles from AC.
Although he embellished his record of being in the Green Beret, his medals are legit.
He was a life guard for years prior to becoming the mayor.
I got a feeling he might have taken his life.

One of my colleagues was a life guard with him.
My FRiend is a pretty strong republican, and he had a very high opinion of him as a man and FRiend.
I'll see what he thinks when I go back to work on Monday.

Sarge what I don't get is that this is an old story. I remember reading about this during the last school year. My FRiend and I discussed the fact that he embellished his record as a member of the Green Beret.
Why wait until now to go take off?

I got a feeling he might have taken his life.It is also possible he had the goods on some of the mobster types around those parts, and they didn't want him plea bargaining them into the slammer. People who have that kind of problem oftimes are discovered buried in a pit of quicklime.

It’s possible Lucius. Sad because he had an honorable record in the military. He didn’t need to claim being a Green Beret.
