Same-sex marriage book donated to high school (David Parker disrespected again)

Lexington - On Monday, Sept. 24, authors of “Courting Equality: A Documentary History of America’s First Legal Same-Sex Marriages” officially commenced plans to donate a copy of their book to every public high school in Massachusetts.

Greater Boston parents, families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) presented the first of these books to Lexington High School.

The town of Lexington began receiving national attention when parent David Parker filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the school system after his son was shown a book that mentioned the existence of families headed by gay couples. Brian Camenker of the anti-gay activist group Mass Resistance appeared at the book donation ceremony to stage a protest.

PFLAG chose the Lexington school system to receive the first copy of the book because of “the town’s commitment to diverse, safe, and welcoming schools for children of all families,” according to a statement from the group.

PFLAG president Stan Griffith, a Lexington resident, said that “‘Courting Equality’ captures one of the defining moments in the struggle for equality and dignity for all. The message of marriage equality has resonated around the world. We want students to know about this.”

Carla Yengo-Kahn, a sophomore at Lexington High, accepted the book on behalf of the school’s Gay Straight Alliance (GSA).

“It is appropriate that my high school should get the first book. We are from Lexington, the birthplace of the American Revolution, which was fought for the very principles of freedom central to our democracy, and appropriately our educational system,” Yengo-Kahn said. “In our curriculum everyone is a part of ‘We the people.’”

PFLAG’s donation was made possible by Chip McLaughlin and Keith Maynard, the married same-sex couple on the cover of Courting Equality. The book was released by Beacon Press on May 16, 2007.

Why do these people think that by redefining a word, in this case the word marriage, they will feel better about themselves? It won’t make them be normal in any way.

They are just trying to redefine normality, and gaining way too much grown in doing so.

PFLAG? more like PLAGUE!

It’s fairly obvious to me that the best way to combat lies is with the truth. Sadly we have to explain these things to our kids from Scripture at a younger and younger age. Because this kind of assault is NEVER going to stop.

You see a high school on the same level as a kindergarten?

Hi Lex,

I just went to his blog, and from there to massresistance, and saw the pictures of the SF fiasco this past weekend. From there I went to Michael Savages site, and my screen started flashing on and off, and stayed off for long periods of time. Strangest thing I have ever seen! Almost as though the site has been hacked, and I wouldn’t doubt it, probably by those holding that perversion fair. Doing a virus scan to be sure, after restarting, and been back on for bout 20 minutes with no problems. Also check the monitor and the video card, no problems. Something very strange going on.

If anyone know hows to contact Michael Savage, they might want him ask that he check it out. These Nazi tactics have been done by these folks many times before.

As far as this article, MA still has on the books a law against same sex pseudo marriage, it has never been changed.

“We the People” in Lexington? Then how come the Knights of Columbus can’t have a Nativity Scene on the Green?

The article says, "Brian Camenker of the anti-gay activist group Mass Resistance...." Are they "anti-gay" or are they just for people being treated equally, instead of superior rights for only some people forcing their views on Massachusetts children in a state where the judicial system has told parents if they don't like it they can homeschool?

These kind of issues have become the subject of presidential debates.
