ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- New York conservatives have invited Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson to speak at a fall celebration -- not native son and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
State Conservative Party officials said it's not meant to be a slap at anyone, merely what they wanted to do.
Giuliani has supported abortion rights, gun control and has been divorced twice, all issues that make him less popular among Conservatives than other candidates.
The Conservative Party is the fourth largest in New York and can often be influential on the Republican side in elections.
The party has not made any endorsements, and has no such plans until the Republican nominee is chosen.

Does anybody have what it takes to stand up for what they believe these days? If they are so darned influential, they should try endorsing a conservative!
Fredipedia: The Definitive Fred Thompson Reference>WARNING: If you wish to join, be aware that this ping list is EXTREMELY active.
The NY Conservative party offered Giuliani their nomination in 2000 in the Senate race if he did just one thing, come out against partial birth abortion. He refused to. When he withdrew from the race because of his cancer scare, the likelihood that the Conservatives were going to have a 3rd party candidate never materialized.
Yes. His name is FRed Thompson.
This thread was posted yesterday on the same event. Some posted information about the NY Conservative Party.

Oops. Sorry. It got lost in my HUGE list of pings.
I did a search and it didn’t show up.
*Sigh*
Senator Fred Thompson is the only major candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles dont change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.
I know many, many Republicans that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as Conservatives, and never will. Millionaire Mitt Romney is a RINO (though I’m sure he is a very nice man) that simply has everything else and nothing to do. I guess Ill just try to buy the presidency. Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our Country. Nice picture huh?
However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if thats even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this Country and strength back to our party. A little of the good old days of faith and family would do well for this Country. If a Conservative runs as a Conservative, he will win!
Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a party, as a Country, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is? It is not impossible to take back the House and the Senate. We are winning in Iraqthey know it. The best they can do now is stop our progress and choose defeat, just like they did during Vietnam. We lost because Congress chose defeat. History repeats itself when not learned from.
Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our Country right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this party and nation back together! Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart as a party. Liberal is liberal every day of the week.
Really tick off the RINOs and leftist democrats and contribute to Fred Thompson: https://www.fred08.com/contribute.aspx?RefererID=c637caaa-315c-4b4c-9967-08d864cd0791
The most poignient and well balanced speech I think I have heard in long time! I agree!
Did they invite Ron Paul?
I think we conservatives and many Republicans [yes I am a registered Republican] should quit this infighting. I have not picked any candidate for sure but as the article above states, we certainly don’t want another Clinton administration. So until the primaries are over each of you who have selected who you believe will be the best candidate for us, speak out for him or her, if the case comes up, and tell us why you like him.
The comments from others should not be derogatory but perhaps an opposite opinion about their own candidate.
I feel so sad when I read some of the remarks here about any of our candidates because I have always believed Republicans were above the crude discourse that is stated here by some of us.
I know it must be my age, 84 last Feb., but it has been a long time since I have worked in politics I am most likely behind the times.
I do know THIS, if we don’t stick together and try to get the vote out we have lost already.
Sorry if I seem to be preaching, maybe I am. I know if God be for us, who can be against us. I pray that he is.
OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! got the idea?
Very well put
Good news bump!
Amen to your post!!
Mitt Romney is the only one of the present “top tier” GOP Presidential candidates who doesn’t have a divorce record. Attacking Rudy Giuliani for his past divorce history when Fred Thompson also has his own past divorce history is strange.
