I remember even having a tag-line about ‘cut and run’ Conservatives (voters who sat at home over one issue or another instead of looking at the big picture.) I wasn’t very popular then.
An enemy declares war on us and Ron Paul wants to be defensive.
Oh, yes. He would use black ops to go after terrorists worldwide instead of open warfare.
Sounds like the same thing Clinton claimed he did to fight terrorism.
Republicans now define 'defense' as the right to pre-emptively attack anyone and everyone if that nation represents a 'threat'...
Yup. And if you don't like it, get out of the Republican Party and don't let the door hit you in the rear.
We've stood by and done nothing about the Middle East for decades. The Ron Pauls and John Kerrys think we can contain the problem and just nit-pick at it with special ops.
Using special ops alone to fight terrorism is like using a spoon to bail out the Titanic.
Last time I checked Congress proposes and pass laws....
Last I heard, RP threads were just for entertainment value. Nobody said anything about serious debate.
Having been witness to the discussion about the threads being purely for entertainment, I'm skeptical.
If you’re “SERIOUS” about Ron Paul for US President, then I’m ROEBUCK ... and nobody’s watching the store!!
Really? Which enemy is that? Which nation has declared 'war' on us? We're fighting a war against a tactic. Good luck with that. Reshaping the ME in 'our' image (as if we could) isn't going to help it. Course the British and the French already know that. From experience. You know that history thing you have to toss out to believe 'this time' will be different.
We've stood by and done nothing about the Middle East for decades
Actually we haven't. And therein lies the problem.
Using special ops alone to fight terrorism is like using a spoon to bail out the Titanic.
And using heavy handed actions to fight a political tactic (albeit violent political tactic) is going to go over like a lead balloon over the long term. It's just not going to work.
America is the victim of 9/11 as Dr. Paul has repeated many times. Foreign policy over many years against Arab nations and the heavy handed influence of a powerful neocon minority angered a few individuals enough to commit suicide in the most deadly attack on American soil. It’s called “blowback” and it’s real. One result, as we are seeing is the expansion of our federal government. Additionally, we see violations of civil liberties perpetrated by our government. Our government now has more power to victimize the American people than any terrorist organization ever could. This is a welcome result for the terrorists. A brave and free country does not sacrifice liberty for security - too many have died in the defense of our freedom to give up. Ron Paul is now our best defense. (Suggested reading - “A Foreign Policy of Freedom”).
“Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations-entangling alliances with none.” -Thomas Jefferson
(One of Ron’s favorite quotes - hardly isolationism)
Apparently youth understand Dr. Paul’s message - but it’s definitely nothing new. Check out “Mr. Republican” President Taft. Check out Bastiat...most of our founders. Freedom brings us together - it doesn’t divide us.
You are simply a fool. I guess because we as a country prosper (thanks to our forefathers) we were asking for it? And don’t even try to say that’s not what you meant, because spouting that theory is precisely that.
I don’t care what looney excuses caused the jealousy of the rest of the world, my sane common sense mind (along with my patriotic heart) can’t even go there and doesn’t give a flying crap what blow back nonsense you and Paul preach. Only liberals make excuses for the atrocities of others. You are wasting your time here.
Just because an organization declares war on us it does not justify a war stance by the United States?
Another illustration of Ron Paul supporter ignorance.
Let me ask you this: What is the difference between an organized military under a flag declaring war on us and an organized terrorist group without a flag declaring war on us? How are those threats different?
Reshaping the ME in 'our' image (as if we could) isn't going to help it.
Many said that about the Marshall Plan. They were wrong then and you are wrong now. In fact, it is insulting to hear people say that democracy cannot take hold in the Middle East.
And using heavy handed actions to fight a political tactic (albeit violent political tactic) is going to go over like a lead balloon over the long term.
Gee, Thomas Jefferson used an undeclared war against the Barbary Pirates (Muslim Terrorists) successfully. It took almost 5 years and Jefferson suffered much criticism for his actions. But it worked.
That's funny. Jefferson tried to get other nations to join him in resisting the Barbary Pirates. He was a big proponent of treaties with foreign governments and unified stands against aggressive groups. In the end, Jefferson had to go it alone because the rest of the world was happy paying the ransom to the Muslim Pirates, so he raised a Navy and attacked their countries of origin without declaring war.
Sure sounds like Jefferson would have done exactly what Bush has done. Ron Paul cannot even interpret the founders correctly.
Cut-n-run, tail between his legs pro-Jihadism. You’re right. That’s not isolationism. That’s much worse.
