Man, nice way to bring the races closer together, huh?

It's been what, a hundred and twenty years?

In My Home Town we have a nationally known museum complex on the west side of town, with a children's museum, a natural history museum and an Ohio history museum. It's built in the old Union Train Terminal, and it saved the historical Art Deco terminal from destruction. It is upbeat, energetic, full of kids and adults all day long, and has a massive private donation infrastructure to help the city pay for it...and despite all this, this incredibly successful complex still needs tax dollars to keep it open.

Now , our do-nothing Liberal, anti-business city council has sat on their hands for thirty years trying to "revitalize the riverfront." I have watched across the river as Kentucky has encouraged Newport on the Levee, a sprawling, busy and highly profitable mile long complex of movie theaters, hotels and shops, and watched people park in Ohio, and walk across the pedestrian bridge to spend money like water in Kentucky to have fun. Four years ago, we had little more on our side than two stadiums that we paid for and the rich teams enjoy, and a hole in the ground where our best intentions were kept.+

So, what's the solution to save the day? In My Home Town, my tax dollars (without my permission) prop up "the Freedom Center", which is in fact, "The Slavery Museum." The gullible sheep in My Home Town were sold the bill of goods that this would bring a bazillion tourist dollars into the local economy, and cost next to nothing. And of course, four years later, after much liberal guilt and hand wringing, the Slavery Museum now need my tax dollars to survive, has laid off half it's staff, and is STILL doing little more than dragging schoolkids downtown to feel guilty about what ended more than a hundred years ago. (But oh, they now have an actual "slave pen" moved in from Kentucky!)

Any sensible Conservative would say, "people don't want to buy Castor Oil-flavored ice cream." Why would people buy tickets to something designed to make them feel bad about themselves and about history? Or more correctly, how can you imagine that people would line up to buy guilt? The answer of course is the Liberal answer that has existed since the dawn of time...they know better than we do what is good for us, and you yokels shut up and eat your vegetables.

If Jessie Jackson and his ilk would shut their collective pie holes, and start preaching to their "congregations" that you should stop blaming "the Man", learn to speak clear English, work hard, and get some damn pants that fit properly, bigotry would be gone in a generation in this country. We joke that my 14-year-old daughter has no black friends...because she just has friends, some of which happen to be black. The magnet school she attends is roughly 45% black, and everyone there is there because they want the best public education they can get. No fights, no whining about "the Man"...they are hard workers with an attitude to succeed.

I see Angry Young Men who claim that working hard is "too white", and that they are being "dissed" if any criticism is made of them at all. How can you call each other by a word that was used by your masters to demean you more than a hundred years ago and expect the public at large to take you seriously? Hundreds of word "die" out of the dictionary every year, but this one is kept alive by the very people who should want to see it disappear. What sense does that make>

Where I was born, respect is earned, not fawningly spewed. For all the lip-service paid to Martin Luther King, Jr, he had it right: Judge the contents of a man's heart. I wish Jessie and Al could do that.
