Harold Ford Sr. warned brother John about taking payments from TennCare contractor

NASHVILLE — Days after news broke in 2005 that then-state Sen. John Ford was taking huge payments from a state contractor, his brother warned him he could be facing criminal charges, according to wiretap evidence released today in federal court here.

Former congressman Harold Ford Sr. told John Ford as federal agents listened in on a Feb. 14, 2005, phone call that once a grand jury begins looking at the payments from a TennCare contractor, “it’s all over.’’

“I mean that TennCare thing got to be the most explosive thing in the world,’’ Harold Ford told his brother.

“... I don’t give a blank what your lawyer’s telling you, that’s criminal, man.’’

The revelation of the Ford brother’s conversation came as federal prosecutor David Rivera read from a transcript of a secret FBI recording.

The call evidently is one of hundreds of conversations the FBI listened in on after tapping John Ford’s cell phone as part of its Tennessee Waltz sting.

Ford, 65, was convicted earlier this year in Memphis of taking $55,000 in bribes in the Waltz sting and must report next month to a federal prison in Texas to begin serving a 66-month sentence.

Prosecutors now want to the use the recorded call and other wiretap evidence from the Waltz undercover operation in a separate corruption case against John Ford here.

Ford, meantime, wants to suppress the wiretap evidence, a matter debated this morning before U.S. District Judge Todd Campbell. The judge gave prosecutors and the defense until next Friday to file additional paperwork before ruling on the matter. Ford is set to stand trial here Nov. 6.

I bet Harold Jr is sweating bullets about any calls he made that the FBI might also release.

Don’t hear much about Jr these days....I’m still waiting on the engagement announcement he promised back during his losing campaign.

Could this warning be considered illegal activity. I would be interested in knowing what he knew and when he knew it. Obviously his relatives are all too damn stupid to quit taking the money. If he was privy to details of the investigation he should be charged also. And to think just a couple years ago before Hussein Obama was discovered he was considered the democrats golden boy.

There is one call Harold Jr. is NOT worried about, and that was his support call to Don Imus! LOL

Well, well...Harold Jr is still “out there”. I did find this little item in the news:

Oh pulleeeze. His little corrupt butt may get elected in the most dangerous city in the country, (Memphis) but the state will reject him in a heartbeat. Even our Rino senator (Corker) had no trouble beating him for the Senate seat our other Rino (Frist) gave up.

(Please God, send us some conservatives who won't fight each other but will fight the bad guys)

Oh, yes he did have trouble. He was trailing Junior for most of the period following the primary. Had Junior not made that major gaffe of showing up at a Corker function and Fred cutting some campaign ads, he'd be our Senator today. A swing of only 26,000 votes was all that was needed. It demonstrates the folly of putting up RINO squishes that drive down Conservative turnout.

I guess Whitey Ford must really wish he won now. Democrat senators are like residents of a foreign country who are immune from American laws.
