Stupid question here but, why not just dissolve the District and turn it over to Maryland? Make it Washington, Maryland.

Or is that just too simple?

Why do you hate Maryland so much?

The People’s Republic of Maryland is already too left wing - adding D.C. to it would be intolerable for those of us unfortunate enough to live here.

The federal government has to reside somewhere. That was the original purpose of the District. A territory that was home of the Federal Government, but not part of any state. This would prevent the state from getting special consideration (funding and more) simply because it was the seat of the Fed. If they turn it over to Maryland, then you can bet Maryland will start to get extra consideration being the home of the Fed.

DC would also HATE that Baltimore and Frederick would have just as much say in state matters as they would.
