President George Bush Proclaims September 24 Family Day 2007
WASHINGTON, DC, September 20, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The following text is a proclamation by President Bush:
Families are the cornerstone of our Nation. On Family Day, we underscore our dedication to strengthening America's families and recognize the importance that the bonds between parents and children hold for the future of our country.
Parents and family members are the first and most important influence in a child's life. Families offer a stable and nurturing environment by providing love, guidance, support, and comfort. They help young people gain the skills they need to succeed in life and the courage and drive to realize their dreams. By caring for and spending time with their children, parents instill lifelong values and help build a better America.
My Administration is committed to supporting American families. We are working with faith-based and community organizations to promote healthy marriages, responsible fatherhood, and positive youth development. When children are connected to family, community, school, and places of worship, they are more likely to make good choices and reach their full potential.
Families help prepare children for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century by encouraging them and insisting on high standards. Strong, loving families help young Americans grow into successful adults and build a Nation shining with optimism.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 24, 2007, as Family Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day by engaging in activities that strengthen the bonds between parents and children.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty- second.
GEORGE W. BUSH
Who asked the imperial Federal government to deliver an epistle about the value of families?
American... as in USA or the two continents??
As usual, the President can be depended on to support and espouse family values. Now if only American families will live out those values.
How long before the GLBT lobby uses this to promote their non-traditional family agenda?
Ok. I had September 23rd in the “Stupid special days that mean nothing but give politians camera and press time” pool. Who beat me? God, don’t politians love to say “by the authority vested in me” or what?
He's making an in your face statement to the gays, Socialists, Godless and other enemies of our traditional values - a line in the sand.
and all you people can do is dump on it?
What happens in here after mid-nite? The ghouls come out?
By declaring a day? All due respect but declaring a day is just the federal gov’t wasting tax payers time and money. Money and time that they shouldn’t have spent in the first place but if they had they could have spent it better.
I declare September 23rd....well, September 23rd.
Praise President Bush for that Proclaims Day on Family values.
America’s foundation is strong when Family Values are firm!
More BS from the president who has stood and watched while mass outsourcing of American jobs has occurred, and has actively encouraged mass importation of slave labor.
His policies have destroyed American middle class families, not helped them. As usual, he's FULL OF IT.
All that? WOW. Happy family day!!!
Hey, can we have a Borders Day? You know, so he can make a statement about our lawful sovereign borders?
go start a border thread - this ain't it.
The designation of days provide a guideline as to what’s important and should be recognize by Americans. That’s why we have Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Veterans Day, Patriot’s Day, and other designated days.
In the overall scheme of things, it’s ultimately up to the people to celebrate it. These proclamations can not force anyone to celebrate but it is nonetheless important to recognize the (mostly) important and noble ideas behind these dedications.
Presidents have been designating special days for a long period of time now. If people are picking on Pres. Bush for doing this then the same standard should apply to others who did the same. There are much more serious issues/problems/concerns to gripe about than a mere dedication of one day.
I mean all it is an electronic and paper statement which probably took no more than a few minutes to compose. How much time and money can it really sap? Is a postcard such a tremendous financial burden? Is a one page written memorandum a colossal waste of time?
It’s not like after this statement he can’t do anything else importatnt for the entire day.
The reality is that most, if not all, of societal woes are the result of the disintegration of the traditional family. If a husband and wife were committed in their marriage and taught their children, through words and example, a virtuous code of conduct, our nation would eliminate the problems which beset us.
